Key takeaways from the Psi Chi webinar So You Need to Write a Literature Review This blog post describes key tasks in writing an effective literature review and provides strategies for approaching those tasks.

From the APA Style blog:

"It may be helpful to write your paper out of order. Start by writing the 'heart' of your paper first, in which you analyze the literature, and then write the introduction, paper title, and conclusion."

In an APA Style paper
πŸ”Ή each work you cite should appear in the reference list, and
πŸ”Ή each work in the reference list should be cited in the text (body) at least once.

πŸ‘‰ "The text (body)" includes any tables or figures that are included. So, citing a work in a table or in a figure "counts."

Headings: Appear in the body of a paper and help identify the content of different sections.
πŸ”Ή There are five levels of heading in APA Style.
πŸ”Ή The number of headings needed in a paper is based on the length and complexity of the work.

Page Headers Versus Headings 🧡

Page Headers: Appear in the top margin of a paper.
πŸ”Ή In a student paper, the header includes only a page number, in the top right corner. The title page is numbered as page 1.
πŸ”Ή In a professional paper, the page header has a page number and a running head.

Q: Can I cite a quote from a YouTube video?
A: Yes! In the in-text citation, where you would include a page number for a quote from a written work, include the time stamp instead. Use the time for the beginning of the quotation. Use this guideline from Publication Manual (7th ed.) Section 8.28 to quote from other audiovisual works too, including TV shows, podcast episodes, audiobooks, and streaming videos.
Example:
Instead of β€œ(Espinoza, 2026, p. 15)” you would write β€œ(Espinoza, 2026, 1:41)” to indicate the time when the quote begins.

πŸ”Ή Use quotation marks around a word or phrase when used "as an ironic comment, as slang, or as an invented or coined expression."
