I have been loving it and I'm sad that the first season is already over.

The 2026 National Science Foundation budget is $8.75 Billion.
Everyone deserves housing.
Everyone deserves healthcare.
Everyone deserves food, water and clean air.
These are not things you should have to βearnβ.
Your ability to survive should not be based on economic output.
Help people meet their basic needs & watch the world change.
Somehow, this story keeps getting worse:
"The ongoing investigation has so far found that the munition did not go off target, but rather hit the school because old intelligence showed it to be a military target, the four sources said."

We really need to end corporate personhood... And while we are at it, let's just turn all corporations into worker owned co-ops. Got to stop having all these authoritarian groups in our society.
Chili's is a corporation, it has no personal values or lifestyle.
They already stopped burning coal late last year and are switching to natural gas. This law is aimed to prevent the Trump admin from forcing it back to coal by making it too expensive so even if they block the state law forcing the change, the company won't switch back due to financial costs.
Forcing gender norms on society has always been something fascists do. From the very start they have attacked trans people, women and anyone else who doesn't fit their defined gender norms. Modern fascists are no different.
My little mutual aid team has fundraised over $250,000 in rent support over the last 3 months JUST for families at our neighborhood school.
$1 million for the whole city does NOT come close to meeting the scale and depth of need in our city.
Fuck Frey. This is unacceptable & will cause harm.
A six-year-old student at the California School for the Deaf-Fremont has been reunited with his communication devices after being deported to Columbia last week.
I really would like some Starfleet: Starfleet Academy novels and short story anthologies.

Suicides increased fivefold when adolescents on the waitlist were told they would be permanently waitlisted.
45 kids and untold relatives of these kids are now grieving.
And still they are like, but wait, we don't have enough evidence.
Please end this "spring forward/fall back" bullshit I am DYING
My chickens don't use the dust bath bins I made for them unless their yard is wet. If it's dry, they prefer making their own out in the sun.
Beyond all the other issues with Teslas, I will never get in a car that has doors that need power to open. And a hidden cable behind a door panel doesn't count. I want real door handles that are mechanical so it's easy to open in an emergency. Should be required for all cars just like seatbelts.
Fun! I have been listening to Star Trek audiobooks while getting over the flu. Trek books are fun.
Star Trek is optimistic, but still didn't have humans uniting until after years of war including nuclear war and most major cities being destroyed. I just hope we can find a path forward that is better than Star Trek--at least on the social progress part.
A daffodil with yellow petals and an orange center cup. Mixed in with some brown branches of a small shrub.
These are my favorite type of daffodils. I love the ones with an orange center and yellow on the outside. I planted a bunch of them last fall to add to the others I already had. Might get some white and orange ones next to add a bit more variety. π±
They're going to poison a city with 17 million people
i don't care about any arguments against this. right now the sum total of my political advocacy is: crush the Republicans and make them pay. i don't care what comes after because until we do that nothing better is possible.
there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for
Early this morning, there was an aggravated assault and vandalism at one of Phoenix's mosques. Hate has no place in our city, and the person who did this will be brought to justice. I've been in touch with our Police Chief and will continue to monitor the situation. And I continue to wish our Muslim neighbors a blessed holy month of Ramadan. PHOENIX MAYOR KATE GALLEGO
Statement from Mayor Kate Gallego saying that this morning there was an aggravated assault and vandalism at a Phoenix mosque. This comes only days after the news that Islamophobic hate crimes are up in the state and as the GOP-majority leg. continues to push through anti-Muslim bills this session.

"The ring-tailed glider is considered sacred by some Vogelkop clans, who believe it is a manifestation of ancestorsβ spirits. Rika Korain, a local Maybrat woman and a research co-author, says the species could not have been identified without the help of traditional owners."
I always like seeing news like this - though really just discovered for western science. Reading the article, it sounds like people living there knew about them. But still some good news! And I'm glad the article credited the local people's role in this.π

Star Trek has always been about exploring the human condition while also having some fun, thought provoking, and weird sci-fi concepts.
Getting tired of media illiterate chuds and fake fans trying to convince you it was only about the cool spaceships.

Two fish traps floating on a river. There are walkways around 3 sides. The downstream side doesn't have a walkway. The traps are in the middle. Captures roughly 15% of the population moving through at a given moment. Checked daily and fish measured and counted and some other data collected.
Looking at the small salmon fry in one of the traps. There are a lot of small salmon fry in the trap.
A close up of a few of the salmon fry that were caught. All of them were ultimately returned to the river.
I went out to a fish trap for work today. Really interesting. Being used to study Chinook salmon runs and the differences between fall and spring Chinook and how we can better support them through restoration projects. π° π
