But doesn't solve the much bigger problem that students still have to make applications before getting their grades

If the government was going to announce the (vital) increasing tuition fees the day before the US election, they could have at least returned them to their real 2012 levels, in addition to index linking them.

Myself and @richmurphy-econ.bsky.social have written and thought a lot about HE finance. Here is our take on the current problems facing the sector:
1. Restore maintenance grants
2. Begin phased restoration of fees/maintenance loans
3. Dont scrap the current system: it's fundamentals are good
