Honestly, I am absolutely disgusted by academics suggesting that AI can do the reading and writing for you. At a certain point, what you're bragging about is fraud. And in a broader sense, what you're contributing to is the erosion of knowledge and the destruction of trust in academic publishing.

Even if AI could write a novel what problem has been solved? The problem of knowing what youโre reading was written by another person? Who loves reading novels but hates the part where your mind briefly and mysteriously touched another?

1. I hope Grammarly is sued into oblivion for this.
2. I bet that most of the people involved in this godforsaken โfeatureโ thought it was an amazing idea. The people with the good sense to shut this idea down were fired or cowed a long time ago.

Well, me and these 75 others.
And most of the work was done by teams of graduate students, most of whom I've never met.

I'd love to see a scientific researcher try to undertake the process, start to finish, of researching, writing, revising, submitting, & revising just one humanities paper.
By themselves. Yes, you do the research on your ownโ & you do the thinking, reflection, analysis, & the writing. All yourself.

"AI will let us turn PhDs from 4 year degrees into 6 month degrees!"
Literally shitting on the part that makes it intellectual development. It requires things like *reading* for yourself and *writing* for yourself. Those aren't chores, they're part of skills acquisition and critical development.

Newcastle pubs ban AI art from breweries to protect local creatives
As two pubs in Newcastle ban AI art, artists discuss the impact it can have on creatives.
"If I was to use ChatGPT for my designs rather than our designer Sean, that's taking money out of the local area into the hands of a multibillionaire ... removing value from the local community and local artists [and] into the hands of some of the richest people in the world."

Coin used as Leeds bus fare was 2,000โyearโold currency
The coin was handed down to Peter Edwards from his grandfather in the 1950s.
This is the sort of thing a cashless society robs us of, the opportunity to try to get away with paying the bus fare in Carthaginian currency www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Hi #EarlyModern Bluesky - did you know that someone brilliant has built working printing presses using Lego and they are trying to get enough supporters so that Lego will release it as a kit?
