Following the price surge, the British right are pedalling a fantasy of self-sufficiency through North Sea oil. This has no serious basis in reality. Britain has been a net energy importer for 20 years. It has nothing to do with net zero and everything to do with decades of declining production🧡

Great to be back on the Skotia discussing the prospects of an SNP majority gov in May w/ Reform in second; the CCC report on Scotland’s draft climate change plan; and what lessons the Gorton & Denton result has for Scotland

Depressing news

This piece by Hailey Maxwell on the People's Palace is great - "The managed decline and privatisation of cultural and civic heritage is entangled with the wilful disintegration of communal ways of living more generally."

Scotland for Decrim Demand full decriminalisation - write to your MSP now

Ash Regan is trying to push a dangerous bill through parliament in a few weeks time that would introduce the Nordic Model to Scotland. For sex workers’ safety and rights, it CANNOT go through. Takes 2 mins to use this tool to tell your MSPs just that scotlandfordecrim.netlify.app/act/decrimnow

really really interesting thread, thanks so much and v glad you enjoyed the piece!

think the NGO/charities filling the gaps is so pertinent - my PhD research focussed on the 80s but I’m really keen to look at that transition into the 3rd sector from the 90s onwards, v connected

I really enjoyed reading this.

The loss of left-wing physical spaces is certainly felt. I was speaking to someone at Sheffield Transformed, who mentioned that the area once had two other radical spaces, 'all gone now.'

It's also about what these spaces mean in building inclusive, radical cultures.

A brilliant article about the disappearance of left-wing spaces, how the online left isn’t representative of left-wing organising in general (despite Ash Sarkar’s claims), and how we can build a movement based on solidarity and the nurturing of diversity.

I liked this quote a lot πŸ‘‡

Where is the left? Radical organizing was once backed up by a network of physical spaces. How can we rebuild them to support the movements we need now? By Rosie Hampton.

I wrote β€˜Where is the Left?’ for the New Internationalist and have been really heartened by how much it’s resonated with people organising across a wide range of groups and in such a vast array of different places

You can read the article here newint.org/protest/2025...

lovely to get my print copy of the latest

it discusses left wing spaces, whilst offering a critique of recent accounts (such as minority rule) that suggest the left has got β€˜worse’ at solidarity

'North Sea workers urge government to do more on creating good renewable energy jobs' Rosie Hampton is oil and gas campaigns manager at Friends of the Earth Scotland responds to a new study of over 400 North Sea oil and gas workers…

"Almost all of those surveyed want more public investment in domestic wind manufacturing, as well as in UK ports so they are fit for energy projects."

Must-read op-ed from @rosiehampton.bsky.social reflecting on their recent survey of UK oil & gas workers.
