they want to erase us completely. do not let them, we will outlive these fascists. create art, take pictures of yourself or your trans friends, make something lasting. we will outlast them forever

In California, Incarcerated Teenagers Help Fight Wildfires
"You’re put in danger every time you’re on the fire line.”
These teenagers and young men — 95% of whom are Black, Latinx, or Filipino — earn between $2.20 and $4 per hour, plus an additional $1 an hour when they’re actively fighting fires, according to the DJJ. ⤵️

anyway I’m excited to keep writing increasingly short weird stories with increasingly long weird titles! One day the titles will be longer than the bodies and then it will be truly impossible to post about them

a slide with two text boxes describing “In the Museum of Unseen Places” and “Calling from the Payphone at the Teleporter Depot”
I got to share my first two publications this year! They’re very different pieces—worlds, genres, intentions—but equally speculative and moody. (links below)

Picture of an American Kstrel holding something in its talons while perched on a large rectangular wooden sign that reads "HUNTER CHECK STATION" in large yellow letters. The sign also has a yellow arrow pointing up. There is blue sky behind the sign and kestrel at the top of the picture and brown platns / grasses behind the sign in the lower part of the picture. The sigs woos is mostly dark brown with some lighter regions. The sign is held up by two large wooden posts at each end.
Well, this was a bit surprising. First, I have been going to Yolo Bypass near Davis, CA very very often and always dream of getting a good raptor pic with the "Hunter Check Station" sign. And I got one today of a kestrel sitting on that sign. Yes, this is a hunter check station.

Yes! Trust that authors are doing things on purpose. :)
From Eco's own notes in the appendix of THE NAME OF THE ROSE: he's testing you with those first hundred pages. If you love it, then continue! If not, then stop!

Naturalists have done this since Darwin's time but gatekeeping in science means that vast collective knowledge is not recognized or dismissed as 'amateur'.

A wedge of orange sky glows above the horizon and is reflected in the Still waters of Lake Winnipeg at sunrise. Slate gray clouds fill the rest of the sky at early morning.
One of my favourite things about doing breeding bird surveys is catching the sunrise in June. This was taken just after 4 o’clock this morning and was worth the 3 AM wake up. 🌿
