I’m 51 today and my son is 12. He made this joke. There’s truth in it. He said,
‘Mom, you can’t keep saying you’re middle-age. You’re 51 now and that means you’re more than in the middle. You’re passed the middle, you’re near the end, unless you live to be 102.’
Here's one illustration, based on a submission from Esther Labib-Kiyarash:
"Pockets of Joy for me are things that I create to get me through the day. Sometimes with Parkinson’s it’s the minutes, the moments. So a big part of that is just being really grateful for every little thing that we have.
We'd love to hear from you, and specifically invite submissions from under-represented groups. Either DM or email us at info@parkinsonseurope.org with your answer, name, where you live and the year and age you were diagnosed. Please don't share personal information publicly.

Current Parkinson's treatments that help to manage some symptoms don't target the root cause, so the condition continues to progress.
There is no cure for Parkinson’s.
And currently, Parkinson’s treatment might alleviate symptoms, but it doesn’t treat the root cause, so over time symptoms will get worse.
We need new treatments that can protect brain cells and slow down the progression of Parkinson’s.

Sadly, people usually only receive a Parkinson’s diagnosis once they begin to experience these better-known movement difficulties, and by this time, around half of the dopamine-producing brain cells have already gone.
By the time Parkinson's is diagnosed, around half of the dopamine-producing brain cells have already gone.
Do you know the first signs of Parkinson’s?
Most people think it’s the infamous tremor (shaking) or stiffness. But often, the first signs are less obvious symptoms like pain, constipation and reduced sense of smell.
