Pull-ups are such hard work. And gaining even a couple of kilos can make them so much harder!
Good luck with it!

Are people intellectually virtuous because they study philosophy, or do they study philosophy because theyโre intellectually virtuous?
Big day yesterday.

All these โgentle remindersโ and โkind requestsโ. Canโt we just be honest and call them the โcruel demandsโ they really are?
I think one of the worst quirks of online spaces is the idea that if someone doesn't post about something, they don't care about it. It encourages performative posting often makes things worse.
I care a lot. I just don't want to add another poorly-informed voice. I'm reading & thinking.
Yeah, I feel the same way.
How long should a covering letter be when applying to an entry level lecturer position (with research and teaching responsibilities)? Iโve written about 1,500 words and Iโm beginning to think thatโs too long.
On behalf of my co-editor, Ami Harbin, I am so happy to share the new issue of APA Studies on Feminism and Philosophy! It celebrates the 20 year anniversary and the publication of the second edition of Susan Brison's remarkable book Aftermath: Violence and the Remaking of a Self. #philsky
This is how I use these terms. Empathising is closer to the emotions.
What's the difference between "immoral" and "ethically impermissible?"
This entire conversation started because Leng was accused of being โanti-transโ. Do you think that was a balanced starting point? Iโve been accused of all sorts of nonsense throughout this interaction yet Iโve consistently been civil.
Iโm happy to engage with whoever, but the same sentiment isnโt returned. Having an opinion on a particular issue doesnโt mean you have a โlack of balanceโ. Iโm done with this conversation. Iโm here to read posts about philosophy, not engage in ridiculous social media spats.
Nice piece by @ingridrobeyns.bsky.social on "team philosophy" as a collaborative endeavour in analogy to "team science". We've been trying to practice something similar in our GEOS project and while there are challenges everywhere, it actually made me love writing philosophy again. So worth it.
I couldnโt speak for her, but I havenโt seen any evidence to the contrary.
I've been invited to write my first peer-review ๐ค Any recommendations from experienced colleagues? Advice is much appreciated!

Bizarre.
An ideology is just a system of ideas. An agenda is aimed at a particular goal. Iโm not making any argument about aims.
I donโt know why someoneโs agreement with Leng on any particular topic would make you consider them unworthy to discuss this issue with, but thatโs your business.
I am in no way an โanti-trans activistโ nor do I have any hatred towards trans people.
Iโm not trying to โsea lionโ anyone, nor do I agree with the blanket statement that โtrans women harm cis womenโ. Plenty of trans women (most Iโm sure) do not harm anyone. At least, not any more than anyone else.
โPromoting anti-trans bigotryโ. Itโs clear that youโre not interested in having a balanced discussion about this, so thatโs fine.
Plenty more that we could say, but thereโs really no point.
Leng is a philosopher who has plenty of experience with people trying to silence her. So I suppose personal
experience has given her a certain perspective/insight on the importance of free speech.
I am not โtrans exclusionaryโ and I wouldnโt really describe myself as a radical feminist either.
I think Leng is against some aspects of trans ideology, but โanti-transโ seems to imply more than that.
There was a promising sense that this platform was Xโs more mature, restrained counterpart, but already Iโm not so sure.
I donโt think thereโs really any need for name-calling. Itโs fine that you disagree with me. Weโre both allowed to express our opinions.
I've never been able to independently verify, but my dad tells a story about a newspaper getting its readers to send in the most egregious examples of unnecessary apostrophes they could find in the wild, and the winner was a sign in the window of a bakery that read "Delicious gateaux's"
Mary Leng is not โanti-transโ. You may disagree with her on issues around single-sex spaces etc, but that doesnโt make her anti-trans.
