A wombat undermined our house to build his burrow. Nearly $50k in foundation repairs, plus $200 in chicken wire to keep him out. Now heβs done the same thing to the shed, so $5k to build a new shed on the other side of the property. Here he is, old Fat Bastard himself.. Edit: itβs wild how many people are suggesting we βget ridβ him... Apart from it being very much illegal, the idea would just never even cross my mind. Itβs his home too. Heβs now settled in his new burrow, and our house is wombat-proofed. The worst he does now is dig up my potatoes.
There's a thread on AskReddit asking, "People who have had to drain their lifeβs savings on a single event, what happened?"
99% of the answers are depressing American stories about medical bills, 1% is an Australian who found a wombat burrowing under their house.
Iβve talked about it a lot but Discworld made me a better person and thatβs a big reason Iβm such an evangelist for it
there is a lot of stuff you can read as a teenager that will set you on a particular path, much of it bad
Discworld will teach you to care about people
it's pretty wild how throughout all of history nobody who has ever decided to argue that "actually a little bigotry is okay" ends up looking like one of the good guys and yet people are still lining up left and right for the opportunity to do so in the paper of record
this rules
"I am old, and I am a legend, and fuck you all I'm going to use my platform to support trans people"
good for him
Can't wait to welcome you to the North! I've enjoyed it so far.
A photo of an empty, foggy street. It's a bit brighter than silent hill, but still slightly eerie.
Maybe I shouldn't have moved to Silent Hill...
Ya like frogs?
It's a beautiful day to reactivate Bluesky. Birds in the sea, balloons in the sky, darkness rising from the depths of heck.
A screen shot of a meme with an Instagram "Why you're seeing this post" message below it. The meme is three images under top text. The top text reads "My uncle is taking tequila shots in the shower". The three images below of hands reaching out from behind a shower curtain, cutting a lime, and preparing a tequila shot. The Instagram message says this post was suggested because I liked a post from Health NZ.
Huh, Instagram really knows what's driving my emotions at the moment...
I ended up going to a party at my Awkward Middle Aged Guys house, where I met my wife. We are also now (sorta) coworkers.
Still wouldn't be totally shocked if he was arrested, though π
Very upset about all these self-diagnosed people taking away all the resources that exist for people with diagnoses... such as:
<RESOURCES NOT FOUND>
All because they find that implementing strategies and finding community makes their lives better.
[Self-diagnosis is valid].
Discworld QOTD, from Wyrd Sisters
My favourite Robbie Williams fact is that he did guest vocals for UK punk band Soft Play's song "Punk's Dead", in which they viciously mock fans who got upset that they (finally) changed their name from "Slaves".
That I can definitely agree with!
I was being a bit picky, but I really think as a country we need to focus more on the root cause of these issues, and focusing on an individual government's failings (which Key's government had many of).
No offense, but I heartily disagree. While his governments policies were disaterous, EVERY government in my lifetime has failed the public sector. The absolute refusal to tax appropriately since the early 80's means that even Governments who genuinely wanted to improve things couldn't afford it.
I wish @talkingwithdinos.bsky.social would release more podcasts.
Beautiful blue skies on Te Tai Poutini, the west coast today! I don't miss the deep South's constant drizzle, for sure.
this is why - like prisons - the profit motive has no business anywhere near health care decisions
the monstrous cruelty unleashed by the desire for βline go upβ has no bounds
Quote posts already detached when one participant blocked the other.
All this does is allow someone who's been quote-posted that doesn't want to be connected to the discussion an option less absolute than a block. If anything it allows more debate, as you can interact again in the future.
If only death
Was a skeleton with a scythe
a long black robe,
And a travel game of chess.
An opponent to best,
Not an unavoidable end.
You can't escape a slip into darkness
But you can smash chess board through a skull.
ADHD is walking to the postbox at midnight in gale force winds to send something you should have sent months ago because you don't trust yourself to do it in the morning.
Not as different as the vibe when your smear is done by an Ogryn
Despite being such a musical legend, I just knew him as another middle aged guy who needed help with his phone before I figured out he was THAT Martin Phillips. Mourn him as a human, not as a legend, because the human is more important.
Martin Phillips used to come into a store I used to work at and ask me to help him with his phone. He never once bought anything from me. I didn't mind, I wasn't on commission. It was just a weird feeling to help such an Aotearoa music legend.
I would like to thank Crowdstrike for waiting until I was on leave before taking down a fairly large chunk of computers world wide. Much appreciated!
