These are Snag tights. I also have a few pairs of Better tights.

3/4 You need them not to dangle at the crotch and start to rub.
You need them to cover up whatever horrors are going on with your legs today.
Also, you don't need your toes to poke through in the middle of the day, which can be surprisingly painful!
2/4 Once upon a time my drawer was full of tights with little nicks right round the waistband. Or sometimes I used to cut the waistband off and wear my knickers on top!
You need your tights to fit well but not dig in. You need them not to get sweaty.
1/4 One of the small but tiring challenges of perimenopause and menopause is that we need to rethink what it takes to be comfortable and look professional.
You can't beat a decent pair of tights.
Today I've been knitted jewellery. Because why not? Resting does not always mean doing nothing. Sometimes it means letting a different part of your heart sing.
These are made out of silk covered steel wire so they bend and keep their shape - and can be dyed whatever colour I fancy.

Anxiety can come out of nowhere in perimenopause and it can be an unwelcome companion in menopause too! It can turn the most ordinary of tasks into hard work and make our work in schools stressful and exhausting.
10 things that help.

Each year I look out for the blackthorn blossom. For me it's the first sign of spring!
Even better, I know that wherever I find this blossom in March, in October I'll find sloes.
Sloe gin....mmmm.
4/4 Not impossible. But much harder. And it increases the toll it takes on us.
One more reason to take good care of yourself - and one more reason that schools need to be supportive of their peri/menopausal staff!
3/4 Our fight or flight centre - the amygdala - is affected by changing hormone levels and can become over-reactive. Our frontal lobe which helps us regulate our emotions can also be affected.
That makes managing the emotions in the classroom harder.
2/4 You keep your own non-verbal communication calm in order to stop situations escalating. Sometimes it feels like we're sucking all the difficult emotions out of the room. Most of us do it without realising.
In perimenopause and menopause our own emotional control system can be challenged.
1/4 We all need to keep our cool in the classroom!
All teachers and classroom assistants do it. You stay calm in difficult and challenging situations. You manage children and young people who are often poorly emotionally regulated.

Thank you.
Thanks. Over the worst now.
A Menopause in School SOS workshop puts participants on the right track - whether that's solving problems in the classroom or taking the necessary steps to improve their own peri/menopausal health.
It's a small investment for a big impact!

Belated Happy #furriday. I have a lurgy so there's much snuggling at Menopuss Towers
Perimenopause and menopause can cause real problems with our health, our mental health and our cognition.
We're already doing a job that's challenging.
Put those two together and you've got a recipe for 'just too much to keep on'.

Has you school got a menopause champion. Is it something you've considered. It's a really good way of ensuring that the needs of perimenopausal and menopausal colleagues are considered and met.

That makes sense.
No-one wants peri/menopause to disrupt their working life. No-one wants to watch their colleagues struggle. We're all trying to give the children and young people we work with the best possible education.
Lets stop peri/menopause getting in the way!

Wild. What's the evolutionary advantage of a spider looking like it's infected with spider-eating fungus. Do predators avoid it?
4/4 And the legendary no ****s given.
I still have verbal memory lapses. Different people seem to have different symptoms that linger.
The good news is. I know they happen. I know how to deal with them. I don't let them bother me.
It's going to be OK.
It is OK. It's going to be brilliant.
3/4 There are even theories that our brains, which have been riding hormonal waves all our adult lives actually do better when there are no more hormone fluctuations.
That's certainly my experience a couple of years post-menopause with a sip of HRT. Clarity, confidence, purpose.
2/4 It does come to an end. Post-menopause comes with its own health challenges. But it's more predictable. The mental and emotional chaos settles down.
Brain scans show brain function returning to normal for most people within 4 years of full menopause.
1/4 This is never more true than for menopause.
You're never going to stop it. You're never going to turn the clock back.
It's going to keep marching on, doing what it does and you're going to keep working out how to deal with whatever it throws at you.
Good morning to anyone going through perimenopause and menopause while working in a school. Hang on in there!
We can help!

We spread that knowledge and understanding across the school.
We make sure that everyone - and in particular those with responsibility - knows how those in peri/menopause can be supported.
We can do this through all staff talks, and training for school leaders.
βIt was great. All staff who took part in the training are now more aware of how menopause can affect women in the workplace and possible ways to support them.β Assistant Headteacher
If we want to make the lives of our colleagues going through perimenopause and menopause in school easier there's a simple starting point.
We make more of their colleagues aware of what's going on.
