The former is a bit of a conspiracy theory admittedly but I can’t help but wonder if people who used to watch cartoons back then and are now working in the business didn’t really watch action adventure cartoons whether it be in the 80s, 90s or early 2000s.
Really the two things I can think of is that modern cartoonists don’t know how to make a story based action cartoon because they never grew up on action shows or they do want to make action shows but are being held back due to corporations and executives choking them by the collar and said no.

Not only that but when people have this mindset they always say “You have variety. There’s a lot of variety they show in comedy.” and it’s like yeah comedy but variety is about everything and not just comedy. What if there are American cartoonists out there that want to make an Action cartoon?

I’ll never forget how one certain person on the internet said that “American cartoons should always be strictly comedy and action and story driven shows should be exclusive to anime.” which is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard because you are gatekeeping people on what they truly want to make.

I think the biggest Pokemon "clone" I enjoyed was Bakugan Battle Brawlers.
My bad, it's actually the 27th Anniversary of Digimon. I don't know why I thought 1997. Regardless happy anniversary to Digimon Adventure!
It was one of those moments I didn't give something a proper chance...
I wouldn't call myself a hardcore fan of Digimon, but I do love what they are going for with the franchise for the most part unlike Pokemon even though I love Pokemon more.
My experience with Digimon Adventure started in 2015, because back then I thought it was a Pokemon ripoff... and I freaking hate myself for thinking that way. It wasn't until I watched my friend playing Digimon World 2 and that convinced me to watch the anime and I'm glad I did because it was fun.
