Replication studies: a win-win for early-career training and behavioral ecology
Replicating previous research builds confidence that results are real and meaningful. But close replications are rare due to limitations in resources and d
How do we know our research results are REAL? We replicate them! Most folks agree but lament on how hard it is to publish these replications.
My dearest gentle reader, lament no more! Delighted to unveil: Replication Studies, a new section of Behavioral Ecology 1/

Protective multi-stressor interactions in the Anthropocene: Key considerations for investigating cross-tolerance in a conservation context
Species in a human-impacted world face multiple stressors, which sometimes interact in protective ways.Β Cross-protection occurs when exposure to one stress
In a world where multiple stressors collide, we often focus on their negative impacts on animals ππΈπ’. But what if, under certain conditions, one stressor protects against another? I am very happy that our ALAN issue is receiving many nice contributions. I will share them here as they come out.
The first contribution is now online, in which Daniel Gomez Isaza et al. reviewed global ALAN impacts on sea turtle hatchling dispersal.

I will forever be haunted by this footage.
Trawling has only been filmed underwater a few times in documentary history, and never with such clarity.
Whatβs so heart-rending about these shots is watching how the animals donβt just get swept up β they swim for their lives.

Schematical representation of a street light; abov is a inverted pyramid showing the levels of biological organization affected by artificial light:
genes/cells; individuals; populations; communities; ecosystems/landscapes
The original figure legend reads: Impact of artificial light at night (ALAN) on multiple levels of biodiversity. The multiple levels of biodiversity are interlinked, i.e., one level of biodiversity may respond to ALAN and modify processes at other biodiversity levels. For example, ALAN may impact the gene expression of certain clock genes, which results in a reduced fitness of individuals and a population decrease due to a phenological mismatch with other species and finally a changed community composition. This may impact ecosystem processes and nocturnal lightscapes (e.g., forests, coral reefs), which in turn influences all other levels.
Yesterday was the 3rd publication anniversary of our 2021 review paper on ecological light pollutionπ‘ AND we also received our 100th citation on Google Scholarππ Therefore I thought it quite fitting to reproduce the original𧡠published on the other site
