It was an absolute honour to be part of the Future engineers program, empowered by Women In Subsea and Energy, inspiring young girls into engineering and other STEM careers. We ran a transdisciplinary workshop with my amazing engineering colleagues to demonstrate the importance of working together.

"Thinking time βthe time needed to concentrate without interruptions has always been central to scholarly work. It is essential to designing experiments, compiling data, assessing results, reviewing literature and, of course, writing. Yet, [it] is often undervalued."

Microplastic consumption elevates fish oxidative stress but does not affect predator-driven mortality
The ubiquity and abundance of plastic debris is one of the most significant challenges facing marine environments. Recent research has demonstrated thβ¦
Excited to be a small part of this great collaboration. Hot off the press, work led by Amelia Mannering. Here, we report that microplastic ingestion increases oxidative stress in fish, but doesnβt make them easier prey. ππ§ͺ #Microplastics #FishHealth

Exploring pathways for world development within planetary boundaries

With current trends and policies, we'll transgress all planetary boundaries in 2050, except for ozone depletion. Targeted interventions β e.g., the Paris Agreement β can help, but not enough. More effective policy measures are needed to ensure we live well within the planetary boundaries.

That is stupid - judgement on something constructive - sure. But if someone is being an Ahole they should remove such a comment. In fact I think such a poor, unprofessional attitude disqualifies the reviewer.

Herring spawned poleward following fishery-induced collective memory loss - Nature
A critically low abundance of older herring due to age-selective fisheries resulted in an approximately 800-km poleward shift in main spawning.
This is a fascinating study on fishing altering fish migratory patterns.
Itβs management implications are important.
Iβve argued that Limit Reference Points also need to consider the ecological role of the fished stock.
This is an example of why that matters.

Arctic plant study reveals an βearly warning signβ of climate change upheaval
A warming tundra has seen unexpected shifts, raising the alarm about fragile ecosystems and those who rely on them
βClimate change is so widespread across the Arctic & weβre seeing this magnitude of warming at 4X the rate than the rest of the π. We expected to see very concrete trends & trajectories. Because in other biomes, we are. But the Arctic is a special & often unexpected place.β - Mariana GarcΓa Criado

In a blow to many foreign medical researchers who rely on U.S. funding, the NIH has announced that by the end of September, it will halt what are known as βforeign subawards,β in which U.S. researchers share their grant money with overseas collaborators. scim.ag/42UpRyQ
