Thank you! π
Thank you π
The promo book jacket arrived. Both blurb writers described my new ethnography as βhauntingβ. Thanks to Javier and Randol for writing these kind blurbs. I think this means Iβve done my job conveying the horrific nature of gunshot injuries.
Congrats! And happy to find you over here. I've been on Threads, but I miss the academic twitter vibes. Do you still post Lego photos? My son loved seeing your old posts on X.
I still don't like how he treated the late and great Marcyliena Morgan, a true trailblazer in Hip Hop studies, sociolinguistics, and a unanimously supported colleague for tenure...Until he denied her. Good riddance to this wicked man.
even the ultra-elite wanna subscribe to neoliberalism...or they want everyone else to buy into it...
and like this a new breaching experiment was born...
I dunno. I have built a martial arts community and enjoy interacting with them, but I do miss hearing about research and talking with colleagues from Academic Twitter. I know people who have left Threads b/c the discourse level is kinda low sometimes.
Easy follow! Dr. Rashawn always breaks it down!
Lecturing about Columbine tomorrow and what we still get wrong about school shootings. It's been almost 27 years and there's still so many misunderstandings about massacres.
I missed academic twitter. I've been on threads for awhile, but happy to see your posts over here!
I just got into a little back and forth with someone and realized that the energy I was putting into that interaction was wasted time (especially since they were not acting in good faith). Anyhoo, looking forward to seeing more of your book posts! Onward
π―. I wanna reach out for some recommended readings on a different topic, but something you would definitely know more about.
My friend told me about this show but didnβt give anything away. He just told me to watch. I did and was hooked. Season 1 was my fave season of TV ever.
Ahh, nice seeing you over here. I think Iβm getting worn out on Threads. I miss academic twitter and hope itβs better over here.

Alright Iβm back from Threads, what did I miss? Looking to connect with sociologists, violence, health scholarsβ¦ I miss Academic Twitter and Threads ainβt scratching that itch π₯°
Do it! Once you go Mac, you never go back, though.
Adventures in agingβ¦Today I made a passing reference to Saved by the Bell and none of my 4th year university students knew what I was talking about. Just blank stares π. Excuse me while I go and have my soup with a side of mid afternoon existential crisis π«
Just got the cover art from the press! Dropping in March 2026!
"The Walking Wounded: Festering and Ricocheting Trauma after Gun Violence" is coming out in March 2026 on U of Chicago Press! Excited, relieved, and a bit anxious as one always feels whenever you wrap up a big project.
Thank you!
Got the best news today from my editorβ¦My new book βGunshotβ got approval from the University of Chicago editorial and faculty committees and is now βforthcomingβ! Itβs been a long, long road. 10+ years coming to fruition π
Thereβs no coming back if a POTUS ignores a Supreme Courtβs unanimous ruling. Different branches of federal government exist to check and balance against tyranny. Regardless of your politics, this is a pivotal moment with immense downstream effects.
Some π¦ friends donβt know this, but I have published work on serial homicide investigations and have been in a number of serial killer documentaries. Just got a Google notification that CTV is showing Catching a Serial Killer, which originally debuted on Oxygen and is now streaming on CTV. π₯
The struggle is real! But we persist π
Sometimes flailing is progress. Channeling this mantra as I struggle with this new paper. π«
Pretty cool reading a peer reviewed article by a former undergrad who is now a PhD candidate. You don't see them for years and then one day you come across their very helpful article. The teacher learning from the student. A true full circle. βΊοΈ
