Well worth a read for specifics and background. I'm particularly pleased that finally wildlife connectivity efforts will be funded.

A deal has come together that would allow Oregon to purchase Abiqua Falls and 200 acres of surrounding forest for a new park, in a bill being considered this week by the legislature.
The deal includes an agreement with Mt. Angel Abbey that put the falls up for sale: tinyurl.com/4fufhm7n
Scarlet Monkeyflower is a super showy, moisture loving native perennial that is a hummingbird favorite!
Prairie Junegrass is a lovely native clumping grass that's a host plant for Skipper butterflies!
Pacific Aster is a huge draw for pollinators late in the season. Here two Skipper butterflies enjoy the nectar this aster offers.
Pearly Everlasting is a wonderful late season blooming wildflower. These flowers are excellent for bouquets and dried flower arrangements.
Here are a few more perennial native plants that produce seeds without any germination requirements!

Yachats will officially be deemed a Bird City on Sunday. The town hopes the designation will sharpen the communityβs environmental focus.

Momma francolin opens up the pantry for her chicks.
These Old World pheasant relatives found in Asia & Africa are terrestrial (but not flightless) omnivores.
Termites create "mud tubes" to allow them to move from soil to tree without risk, but they're no match for momma francolin & her chicks.

Our Garden for Birds initiative helps you welcome birds into your outdoor space using native plants. Habitat loss is the #1 threat facing birds & we can do something about it. You don't have to have a yard, even just adding a native plant to a pot can help: www.gardenforbirds.org

Forces of nature in our lives:
1. The forest that helps us take a deep breath
2. The river that reminds us to keep moving
3. The friend who always gives us hope
Let's learn some surprising things about hummingbird tongues.
First, as you can see, their tongues are forked & feathery, highly specialized for lapping up their liquid diet of nectar.
But it gets weirder up close!
Birds take time to discover an available box, so itβs best to place them before spring starts. Take advantage of the tail end of winter to post a nest box (or a few). Weβve got free plans to help you get started:
While many birds are just starting to think about spring, Great Horned Owls are already nesting. Females incubate eggs in mid/late winter, often reusing old hawk, crow, or heron nests. By late winter, fluffy white owlets peek over the edge completely dependent on both parents for warmth and food.
Franzi Schimmer captured this Grizzly bear in Brooks Falls, Alaska just floating along, tippy-tapping down the river, browsing the salmon.
Prior to hibernation, up to 40% of a bear's body mass is fat, which is less dense than water (~0.9 g/cm^2), so the murder-monster is also a floaty-boaty.

Farewell to Spring glowing in the afternoon sunshine! This lovely annual is such an easy going plant. Start the seeds early and you'll never have to water and you'll have a perpetual flower show for years! (Remember to leave the stocks to let them reseed!)
The adorable pink puff ball flowers of Seablush on a warm Spring day. This little wildflower is another native annual that loves seasonally wet areas and is often seen growing with Camas in the Willamette Valley. It too will happily self sow when happy for years of future flowers!
Another lovely native pink pompom flower! This one is Sea Thrift or Sea Pink. It's a very cute little evergreen perennial ground cover with grass like leaves. This one is loved by tiny carpenter bees that swarm the flowers on warm summer days.
A lovely queen Bumblebee feeding from a Nootka flower. This is a tough wild rose! This rose was planted in full sun 7 years ago and has grown happily without supplemental water for all but 2 months of that time. And, those flowers! They have a lovely papery appearance and smell like an English rose garden!
Let's go pink in celebration of February!

You have done so much. That has got to be frustrating. Thank you for your concern, efforts, and commitment. I have to have hope along with doing what we can.
My Coyote Mint is in a pot. In the winter under the eaves of the house...gets quite a bit of rain even so, and doing great.
Coyote Mint-such a great plant. Can withstand high heat (116 degrees during heat dome!) with no water. Great for pollinators.

A few years ago during a heat dome temperature reached 116 for several days. Coyote Mint had no water and was unfazed, kept on blooming. Bees and hummingbirds love it. Glad to see it highlighted here!
Scaled Quail
Great thread. Thanks for the how to with photos on building a hibernaculum.
Riverbank Lupine can reach up to 4 ft tall when happy. It's very showy and highly appreciated by the native bees!
Quail love lupine seeds!
California Poppy and Riverbank Lupine make such lovely companions!
Riverbank Lupine leaves are gorgeous bedecked in frost, snow, and water droplets! This beauty is a seedling from a mother plant of the previous year. They grow quick! Their first years growth is generally roots, stems, leaves, with a light flower show. The second year is more green growth and a huge flower display!
Wildflower spotlight! Riverbank Lupine is a big beautiful West Coast native. It's a very showy evergreen, an excellent ground cover/weed suppressor, and nitrogen fixing! It generally grows more like a biennial and self sows easily!

Heard one singing yesterday!
California poppy and Farewell to Spring Clarkia are such a happy pairing. Each year self seeding in new and complimentary arrangements!
California Poppy goes with everything! Here it can be seen growing with another gorgeous PNW annual Blue Gilia. The adorable blue puff ball flowers look amazing next to California Poppy. If you look closely in the upper center-left, you might pick out the young starts of yet another native annual! Elegant Tarweed starts have sort of a spiky pineapple shape with long lance leaves.
Large Flowered Collomia is extremely showy, with it's clusters of salmon pink flowers and sky blue pollen that tells everyone which bees have been paying court!
Tall, bright, and beautiful, Elegant Tarweed is a jaw dropper when planted en masse. In my garden I've seen this flower grow as short as 6 inches in the gravel driveway, and as tall as 6 feet in flower beds! It is very popular with pollinators of all sorts and in the heat of the sun this plant releases a resin that smells like a citrusy-pineapple! The flowers open early in the morning and simply glow in the morning sun. By the afternoon these flowers roll up tightly to conserve water. Sometimes bees will nap in the rolled up flowers!
When planning your native garden don't forget the annuals! They're easy going, and readily self seed filling gaps and suppressing weeds while providing a wealth of pollinator benefits. Here's a few PNW options!
