Thanks, always interesting to look at cross cultural comparisons!

Brilliant!
It would be reductive to presume only one story and also new stories keep being invented. Any attempt to interpret the intended meanings is provisional. The way that certain symbols appear on numerous stones invites continued speculation like a mystery to be unlocked.
Thanks for that! βGrooving with the Pictsβ sounds a great title for another blog post
The theme tune is already playing through my head
"However people choose to interpret it, a visit to Shandwick feels like taking a moment away from mundane considerations.
Such sites help us reflect on the natural world, human creativity and the innate desire for meaning and permanence." π€π
I certainly can use some moments away!
It's a great place
Keir Starmer faces one of his biggest rebellions over jury trial cuts and rightly so.
Labour MPs must see through his outrageously dishonest propaganda pieces and VOTE AGAINST this shameful constitutional vandalism

Is there no end to podcasts with me rabbiting on about the #SagaoftheEarlsofOrkney? Well, I'm not good at saying no and I particularly enjoyed this one with Natalie of @ifitaintbaroquepod.bsky.social - she asked some good questions! shows.acast.com/if-it-aint-b...

The AI push clearly exposes how beholden governments are to business. Govs love it because it looks like they're getting billions injected into the economy and that's great marketing, but none of it is real.
Chris is an excellent scholar and also an excellent colleague. We were very lucky to work with him in Liverpool for a few years!

NEW BLOGPOST: Keir Starmer and David Lammy are taking an extraordinarily dangerous gamble with our individual liberty
For any MP unsure of how to vote on the governmentβs proposals to restrict trial by jury.
Excellent lecture by Alex Sanmark yesterday! The Viking Society for Northern Research runs events all year round and membership includes the annual journal Sagabook. Founded in 1892 and still running #medievalsky #sweden
Westminster Meeting House raided by Metropolitan Police again. Statement: βFor Quakers, faith and action are inseparable. Peaceful protest, prayer and nonviolent action are integral parts of many Quakers' religious life. Whilst we take the planning of criminal acts very seriously, we believe that this incident is a deliberate targeting of committed young people who want to make our country a more equitable place. This raid is part of a systematic stifling of dissent. That this is the second time in a year that the police have raided our meeting house dramatically illuminates the broader trend in the UK of cracking down on those who disagree with the government. The right to protest is fundamental to our democracy. It's a key part of how people make their voices heard between elections.β β Oliver Robertson, Head of Witness and Worship Quakers in Britain, 5 March 2026
Yesterday evening, for the second time in a year, the Met Police raided Westminster Quaker Meeting House and arrested a number of young nonviolent activists.
