Churchill wasn’t even on a note till a few years ago. We managed. The Duke of Wellington and Isaac Newton used to be on notes, they’re hardly forgotten now?

It’s a pity that people don’t do that Downfall meme anymore, because it just seems made for this moment.

You can have the best armed forces in the history of the world, but if you are an incompetent criminal without a plan, you can still lose a war, and rather quickly.

I do literally spend cash once a week when I buy the Big Issue from the man at the tube station near my work. But nothing else. I basically arrange to have cash just so I can do that.

I don’t care about what’s on bank notes because who even is still using cash?

Men of strong taste and feeling for the sublime and the beautiful are thus affected to tears (not loud weeping, of course). It is perfectly natural and betokens anything but feebleness of mind.

There is a village near us (in Oxfordshire) called Roke. I can never go through it without wondering what the Master Patterner is up to.

But surely the US military has experts who understand all this stuff, and the leadership will have been thoroughly briefed and acting on the basis of that?

To give a little side-craft lesson about what I mean here when I say 'clunky writing'—let's say this is your *goal*, to write a space-wizard-action serial for kids (& kids-at-heart) with real political depth (for the genre). This is a subtle and interesting and worthy task! So: how?

I’ve still got a commemorative RBS £1 note with the Europen flag in it, from when the European Council was held in Edinburgh in the
90s. I want that back on all our notes.

The security of other NATO states and European partners like Ukraine and Moldova cannot rely on continued alliance with a US whose leadership consistently put Russia first, even in relation to US interests. No amount of European diplomacy is going to change that.
