The Vice Chancellor's comments on BBC Radio 4 yesterday morning about the 'competition' between RWCMD and CU School of Music were ill-informed and simply wrong. The facilities, methodologies, learners, outcomes, opportunities and staff are different. That's okay. But they are NOT interchangeable.
Cardiff University Music alumni: Please share your experiences of the department. The resounding message has been one of belonging, support, broadening horizons and excellence, and is a message that the executive board needs to hear.

Deeply saddened by the news about Cardiff School of Music which is a huge loss for the sector, the students, the staff, the capital and the country.
Fifteen years ago, I came to the Land of Song and it now resembles the Silence of the Lambs (yes, pun intended).

Just to say don't miss this exceptionally powerful film on TV tonight for Holocaust Memorial Day. I would highly recommend Anne Sebba's forthcoming book 'The Women's Orchestra of Auschwitz', which is due out in March.

On this day in 1957, Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites was premiered at La Scala, Milan.
'You must forgive my Carmelites. It seems they can only sing tonal music.'

I dropped my dog off at the groomers but appear to have collected Elgar.
It’s Francis Poulenc’s birthday today and having been absorbed by his life and music for four wonderful years of thesis, I couldn’t possibly miss the chance to post such an incredible work:

Public Service Announcement: Do not watch Ludwig if you are a musician with a non-musician partner.
Is it a great show? Yes.
Will he ask Alexa to ‘play music from the show Ludwig which is by Beethoven’ for a week and slowly chip away at your soul? A strong yes.
Just ask for Beethoven.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but if all you accomplish this weekend is reading a riveting novel cover-to-cover whilst drinking multiple kettles of tea and consuming a scandalous amount of croissants, then you will have accomplished more than enough.
An apricot cockapoo sat on the sofa in a cottage, in front of a fire burning in a log burner.
Blissfully listening to France Musique’s playlist ‘Best of Mélodie française’ and warming up by the first fire of the year.
