I’ve had a horrible thought… with America retreating into isolationism, it will become culturally less important worldwide. So speaking English will become less important. I’m going to have to go to night classes to brush up on my French, and start learning German and Chinese!!!

To be honest, so many things could have lead to WW3 in our lifetime - but we’ve never lived without guarantee that US will respond if NATO is attacked. I think Trump is heading towards that position - but we’re richer than Russia and could become a much tougher militarily power to dissuade Putin.

Can we please stop comparing what is happening now to the 1930s? As the fascist takeover is happening to what was our closest ally and the most powerful country in the world, this is much worse for the UK than the 1930s.
