I updated my Aseprite 95 theme to support all features added up to Aseprite v1.3.17 📣
I haven't had work in months.
I'm a good art director, expert pixel artist, and although I prefer to do art, I can also make entire games from start to finish if necessary, as pictured. Not the greatest coder, but I get the job done (like Chapell Roan I guess).
please share
You can now visualize how a color palette distributes across OKHsv, OKHsl, OKLCh and CIELab, and compare 6 distance metrics side by side. Zero dependencies, raw WebGL2.
Took me 3 years to make something I wasn't too embarrassed to share 🙃

Well, this is genuinely terrifying
As for my plans for March, I want to update my Aseprite themes to work with the newest Aseprite versions. There were some new theme elements added in the not-recent updates that are missing from them.
🟢 Theme Preferences - Theme Template Update to align with Aseprite v1.3.16 & Font Configuration Removed
I'm really happy with this output, I spent a good chunk of January going through the latest Aseprite API changes, getting back into the flow of working on these extensions and it paid off ✌️
🟢 Extend Cel - Tooltip & Undo History
🟢 Select Content - Improved Performance & Tooltips
in Aseprite
🟢 Brush Transformations - Run Command Fix
🟢 Playback Shortcuts - Sequence Randomized
🟢 (... more in the next post)
🧵 A short summary of work done on Aseprite extensions in February:
🟢 Center Image - New Options & Improvements
🟢 Modify Frame Rate - Tooltip, Undo History & (not much) More
🟢 Cel Tracking - Tooltip, Undo History & (a single) Fix
🟢 (... more in the next post)
WIP scene from 'Od's Tower'. In some old ruins, a book is placed at an altar. A red-haired warrior lies on the ground (unconscious?) and a blue wisp is nearby.

A very small Aseprite window with it's default theme modified to use colors based around the Color of the Year 2026 by Pantone called Cloud Dancer. The color looks like raw drywall but makes for a decent software theme nonetheless.
I released an update for the Theme Preferences extensions that catches up with changes to the Aseprite theme up to the current version (v1.3.16) ✌️
(link to the full list of changes in the next below, pic unrelated but I liked it so here we are)

sad megamind
no pixels?

All lines are so clean and I haven't noticed any distorted frames or broken linearts in the trailer. If that's just a pixel shader it's incredible.
"Vampire Artbook" mockup! 👻
Part 2.

I do hope so, the dev has a YouTube channel and they already did a detailed explanation on one of the scenes from the trailer so it's possible we get more insight into this rendering pipeline
Tbh I'm probably more curious about this "3D pixel art" they got. Doesn't look like sprite stacking, nor some voxel solution. I'm guessing it's a pixel shader but I'm no sure 🤔
First time ever I backed a project on Kickstarter, this looks phenomenal 👀

A notification tooltip displayed within a graphical software interface that reads "76%" with a crude, ASCII progress bar next to it. A failed experiment in making a UI feature that probably wouldn't be useful and definitely nobody asked for.
Of course I also immediately tried using this handy UI feature in a way it was not meant to and make like a progress bar out of it. This sadly wouldn't work as I envisioned, spamming tooltips makes them flicker 🥲
It's a small thing (literally) but very helpful to communicate to the user what exactly was done when they invoke a certain command.
I added it to a bunch of my extensions even though Aseprite natively rarely uses them 🤷♂️
A notification tooltip displayed within a graphical software interface that reads "Nightmare Slain" in reference to an absolutely perfect video game - Bloodbourne. I mean it, I love this game.
My Aseprite extension development is very much in "maintenance mode" these days but every one in a while I check what new features are available to the Aseprite API.
We can now (well, since v1.3.15 from August 2025) display these tooltips from a Lua script.
