Strictly speaking, it is! The delivery sticks allow someone who can’t slide to take a shot, but they don’t make the shot any easier or provide any sort of advantage. And then you lose the benefit of the sweepers, so a lot more shots miss or are partial successes.

Both have pitched for Cleveland before! (The Panamanian Logan Allen is in the current starting rotation for the Guardians)

I feel like this list is just a measure of “which instruments are easiest to bring”, as opposed to noise making capacity. I promise you that if 5,000 people showed up with trombones, those would get banned real quick!

Correct. He won both this weekend. Broadcast said that he’s up to 12 in a row.

While we sit around to find out how bad exactly it all is, a bit of cheer: the best baguette of Paris competition was won by a Sri Lankan who appears to have started as a dish washer in restaurants and eventually trained as a Boulanger.

Because the IOC doesn’t actually want baseball in the Olympic, unfortunately

Get the pepperoni roll and call it a day. I'm not even from West Virginia, but you're not topping that. Might be the perfect food when made properly.

Thank you for writing these blogs and for all of the hard work! Day to day IRL, it often feels like nobody cares about the Winter Olympics anywhere near as much as I do, and it's great to see others online who share the same passion. Go get some rest!

My guess is that it’s because we typically hold nationals near the end of the curling season, and Olympic trials have to be way early. Also, No real good reason to skip having a 2026 championship- more curling!

My wife and I have enjoyed watching Team Shuster (who we’ve nicknamed ”The Minnesota Dads Club”) since 2018, so I am hoping we get to see that crew one more time at Worlds

Am I correct in assuming that the US is sending the winners of this tournament to Worlds next month rather than the Olympic squads?

The magic isn’t over.

In two weeks will be the 2026 Winter Paralympics in Milano-Cortina, in which you’ll be able to witness exceptional athletes with disabilities do things you’d never be able to do. ✨

Jessie Diggins finishes 5th in her final Olympic race — the first women's 50km at the Olympics.
It's a race she helped push for after decades where the men raced 50km and the women only got to do 30km.
No medal today, but a huge victory.

I think I liked the mixed team skimo format better than the sprint. Multiple climbs is good, actually!

Regrettably, I haven’t kept up with the standings this season, so I unfortunately have no clue. Hopefully I can watch the last month of the season and get engrossed in the finish!

I was worried since Schumacher didn’t make the quarterfinals in the individual sprint, but he skied a great race! 3 medals in the same Olympics is a new record for US Cross Country skiing!

Eurovisionsport's website (which is free) always has good commentary and posts videos of the race broadcasts anywhere that they aren't geoblocked. Given that nobody televises in the US, it's never geoblocked here, so I really enjoy watching and learning about the World Cup from them.

Agreed. I sometimes wonder if they are scared to market the “can this Mom win Olympic Gold” angle. Like…that’s got to be appealing to casual viewers, right? And both Meyers Taylor and Humphrey are moms and known as legitimate medal threats going in. This isn’t a surprise victory, after all.

"I thought it would get much easier as they got older and it has not," Meyers Taylor, 41, said at the USOPC media summit in October. "Bigger children, bigger problems. Now that they're both walking, they're both up. They don't want to sit on planes, they don't want to stay still. They don't want to sit for meals or anything like that. So it is absolute chaos."

Elana Meyers Taylor.
Wins medals in 4 Olympics (bronze in 2010, silver in 2014/18/22)
In 2020 & 2022, she has kids. Both have special needs. She lives on the road with them, flying around the world for months at a time to compete in bobsled.
And THEN! At 41! She wins her first gold.
American hero.
