Labour's ugliest-ever political strategy has utterly failed The Gorton and Denton by-election must be a wake-up call for the party – or it is doomed

Agreed. I think this had much more to do with how they're running the government than how they ran the campaign.

Dunt summarises well. I really hope Labour have a fundamental rethink... inews.co.uk/opinion/labo...

Keir Starmer's EU Reset Deal Is the First Crack in the Brexit Wall Holding Britain Back This agreement marks the beginning of the end of the suffocating Brexit consensus that has gripped British politics for a decade, argues Adam Bienkov

“Starmer's EU deal is a big break in the suffocating Brexit consensus that has held Britain back for a decade. For the first time a UK government is doing things to actually undo the damage of Brexit, rather than increase it. For that alone it should be welcomed” 👏

The U.K. fishing industry - weaponised & then betrayed & then abandoned, by Johnson, Farage & the rest of them - is better off under Starmer’s deal than it was under Johnson’s. That’s not an opinion. It’s counting. Anyone claiming otherwise is a liar.

There's no placating the Brexiters, no reasoning with them, no basic comprehension or adulthood. You can't debate papers behaving like the Sun or the Mail this morning. There's nothing to debate with. They view all trading relations with Europe as humiliation.

Which is ironic considering how hungry they are to be humiliated by Trump.

It's long past time for threats.

The UK, France and Canada need to sanction Israel now.

Gary Lineker is a good man, a national treasure, a role model.

Being forced out of MOTD because he’s horrified by war criminals murdering kids (in a war the BBC refuses to cover without fear or favour) is enraging.

The BBC allows free speech, but only if you’re right wing.

Millions of Romanians are celebrating tonight nationwide. This is what democracy looks like, despite Russia's insane manipulation campaign and army of influencer-propagandists, the people saw right through the bullshit and made the right call for their future. Romania is undefeated. 🇷🇴🇪🇺

The absolute only decent thing Labour has done since getting into government with regards to immigration was to scrap the Rwanda plan. In all other aspects they are, in practical terms, more anti-immigration than the previous government. With "return hubs" they nullify that one win. #r4today 1/

Starmer's language was deplorable.

It was grotesquely offensive, accusing people who have brought their gifts to this country of doing "incalculable" "damage"; & politically foolish, in endorsing Farage's claims of an establishment conspiracy.

But bad analogies with Powell miss the key problem. 🧵

Top Tory caught admitting Brexit drawback in leaked clip In response on Wednesday night, the Tories insisted that Chris Philp was not saying the Tories did not have a plan for how to handle asylum seekers post Brexit.

They never had a plan.
They just lied and lied and lied.

Both Brexit and Immigration are the most dishonest and ruinous policies going. A Tory/Farage conspiracy of deceit that Labour seems to want to protect rather than challenge.

As for Chris Philp - get in the bin.

I can’t see how we’ll ever be a grown up country if can’t acknowledge that migration has essential and beneficial impacts. The question is not whether there should be controls but if your starting point is immigration is harmful and integration impossible that will determine the controls you choose

When govts stop panicking and announcing policy to “challenge” Nigel effing Farage, we may stand a chance of fixing the mess that Nigel effing Farage helped to make. Until then, we will stay stuck in this populist dead end, loudly blowing our dog whistle at the world and wondering why nothing works.

Labour has a whopping great majority and four years left to turn this country around.

They should be setting the agenda, not chasing about trying to placate voters of a party with five MPs who will never vote for them anyway.

It's not only disappointing... it's embarrassing

Instead, they've played the same old game as their predecessors: far-right rhetoric, some insulting & painful policies for immigrants, and then, you can bet your life on it, a continuation of immigration flows as an economic necessity. Cowards.
