Of course they find them after I've done the full recon on my marathon. TYPICAL LUCK. Still over the moon, I wonder what else is out there?

I want to like The Macra Terror, but ended up thinking it was just okay. I feel the absurdity factor of the crabs is somewhat diminished by the (great) animation. I feel I'm not clicking with this era as much as the last.
The Moonbase is clearly the template for the Troughton era going forward. Many bases will be under siege. Sadly the Cybermen are a bit of a downgrade. The first iteration are much creepier. I do love this Tardis team, even though Jamie has little to do due to his late addition.
Finished another listen through of the Eight and Lucie run. The greatest run of Who. Such a soul crushing ending, and the first glimpse of the Dark Eyes Eighth Doctor. McGann is elite on audio. I love this run so much.
The animations are definitely helping with watching the missing stories. But the older animations (Reign of Terror, The Moonbase, The Invasion) have so much more character than the more recent ones. The jump in quality from The Underwater Menace to the Moonbase is insane.
I have to say it... I bloody love The Underwater Menace. Yeah the fish people are a bit crap, but the concept is terrifying. Zaroff is a mad bastard but so watchable. Jamie is also a great addition to the team. Troughton is already smashing the role!
I did struggle a bit with the recon for The Highlanders, but enjoyed the story and happy to have Jamie aboard. The Doctors hat obsession is such a strange character trait. But he is definitely a schemer and one step ahead. Can see where the Seventh Doctor gets it from
Power of the Daleks is the Daleks at their most cunning and manipulative. Traits I feel they lose as they reappear more often. Troughton is clearly finding is feet, the excessive recorder playing and hat wearing. But is incredibly watchable. A great start for him!
It's my first time watching his whole era. It's been wonderful to see his character grow. Also I've added a few more of his stories to my top list. Especially The Myth Makers and The Massacre.
Hartnell has been absolute magic in the role. He is always stated as being the crotchety grumpy doctor and while that is sometimes true. He is also: kind, heroic, mischievious and adventurous. I've truly enjoyed being in his company and I will miss him dearly.
I've been putting off watching The Tenth Planet. I'm not ready to say goodbye to Hartnell. But the time has come, and sadly he plays a fairly minor role in his final story. The Cybermen are at their most chilling, but the story is somewhat lacking. The animation to part 4 is very impressive.
A rip-roaring adventure. A rapid pace that never lets up...including the 3rd act which somehow wraps up quicker than it's TV counterpart. Sutekh is just as fearsome on the page as he is on TV. I sure hope they bring him back one day... ๐
Not sure how I feel about The Smugglers. I think a lot is lost from it being a completely missing story. I like Ben and Polly a lot. Also the most glamourous companion being mistaken for a male pirate, is quite a bizarre decision.
A return to the first Doctor Who book I ever read. Taking it proudly into school for book day in Year 3. A very fast paced adventure. Good characterisation, but a fairly generic Dalek story. Serves it's purpose fairly well.
The War Machines is wondeful. Hartnell is magic and charming. Ben and Polly are immediately a breath of fresh air and have a great rapport. But Dodo's exit is utterly appauling. She deserved so much better. A great watch though!
The Savages, a great showing for the regulars. And a heartwarming departure for Steven. With so few episodes it's sad to see Hartnell incapacitated for a large chunk. But when on the screen he's still magic!
My first book of the year. And what a way to begin. A terrifyingly relatable society becoming the thing it swore to destroy. @robertshearman.bsky.social is truly a master of his craft. A wonderful read!
Finally finished work for 2 weeks. Bring it on. Plenty of time for reading and my Who marathon!
The Gunfighters, what a blast. Hartnell is absolute magic. Holliday and Earp are both wonderfully portrayed...everyone else not so good. Dodgy accents aside, I had a great time in Tombstone.
Ah The Celestial Toymaker, what a great concept and villain...so poorly realised here. A dull story that also does the Doctor and Dodo so dirty. The animation is great though. Solitaire is a far superior story.
First time watching the Ark, bloody adore the monoids, the story is okay. Easy to watch. Also have to say for my first experience...I love Dodo so far!
Listened to the soundtrack of the Massacre last night. A great story, Hartnell's performance as the Abbot really contrasting with his Doctor. And Steven taking on the mantle as the lead. Would love to see this one return, but definitely continuing the theme of Season 3 being brutal. Top stuff.
This cover burned itself into my mind when I was young kid. Had no idea what it was till quite recently. Such an incredible recreation!
New arrivals. Some fine literature...and Eric Saward
I remember rolling my eyes when this was first announced. But decided to finally give it a go. It is marvelous, great character driven stories. Rose, Jackie and Pete are all amazing written. But the MVP has to be Clive. Such a great set!
Cannot begin to explain how excited I am for Aliens of London! It's going to be incredible!
The collection is looking mighty fine on the new shelves. Got so much reading to do!
Decided to finally get setup on here before the other place fully burns to the ground. Will be continuing posting all my Who reading/watching updates on both.
