Getting ready for our next Reboot segment.
The Oscars are Sunday. For @ebertvoices.bsky.social, I paid tribute to 10 great movies from 2025 whose names we won't hear once during the show. Which is a shame.
On this week's episode:
1) We REALLY disagree about "The Bride!"
2) We dig "Hoppers"
3) We make our final Oscar predictions

What a sad day. I wrote about the passing of a titan of nonfiction filmmaking, Frederick Wiseman. www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...

I did a ranking of every film I saw at this year's Sundance. Plus, I had some thoughts about what it means when a film festival leaves its home.

The gentlemen responsible for the Grierson & Leitch podcast did this very thing constantly in high school. Those are some of our favorite memories ever. As usual, Ted Sarandos is saying something that he wants to be true, not something that actually is.
Central Illinois represnt!
Driving between Champaign, BN, Springfield, Peoria, Quad Cities chasing concerts/movies/parties was a right of passage!.
This is a thing even in pretty big suburbs. My wife and I routinely have to go into Hamilton (30m drive) or downtown Toronto (1hr train) to see art house, indie or foreign films.
Iβm 50 with a family, and my local theatre only shows childrenβs films and dreck (Marty Supreme, did not come here. One Battle was 1 week!).
I live 2 hours from the nearest multiplex, and 6 from an IMAX. And I plan entire weekends around getting to either of those locations to watch movies.
I lived in a small town 30 minutes away from my closest theater and all my friends in high school. The day I got my license, I drove to see a movie.
