Mandad is Gontis's lusus and is extremely independent, explicitly to a fault. He embodies freedom in every way, refusing to let anything tie him down — not responsibility, not expectations, not even fatherhood. He’s always chasing after adventure and discovery, far more interested in mystery and exploration than in staying rooted in one place. He’s brilliant, too, easily one of the most knowledgeable lusii alive. He can communicate with proxinian trolls, he’s clever with both tools and weapons, and he carries this depth of wisdom that feels endless. But he rarely shares it directly. Instead, he hides most of what he knows behind riddles, cryptic explanations, or just silence, which tends to frustrate anyone trying to get a straight answer from him. There’s also a playful, mischievous side to him. He loves turning everything into a game, setting up puzzles or tests rather than simply telling Gontis what he needs to know. It can make him come across as unreliable, but at the same time, it shows how much he values curiosity and the kind of growth that only comes from struggling through something yourself. And while he might seem distant, he isn’t without care. His absence in Gontis’s childhood wasn’t because he didn’t care — it was because he believes in letting him experience the world without being overly sheltered. Mandad doesn’t show affection in obvious ways, but in his own indirect style, he creates opportunities for Gontis to explore, stumble, and grow stronger on his own terms. On an island smack dab on the Proxinian equator, Gontis and his auntie Mictes live to protect the Pit Mother, what the people of his caste believe to be a giant mother grub who secludes herself in a massive pit at the island’s center, of which no one has seen in just under 500 years. The island holds the largest deposit of seastone in all of Proxinia. Seastone being a unique, coral-like rock formation, typically manifesting as towering spires that emerge from coastal waters. Despite its incredible ability to nullify any and all classpect/god tiered powers, It’s not a highly sought-after material, as most trolls have no idea that it can do this. But that makes the island both incredibly safe from god-tiered individuals and immensely dangerous for anyone who discovers its properties and tries to harvest it for their own gain. The Pit Mother is notoriously aggressive. Not a single troll has ever returned from an attempt to descend into her pit. Because of this, she hasn’t been given genetic material in over 500 years. Despite that, she periodically lets out an island-wide screech, that signals to the jadebloods of the island to either feed her or haul up a new cluster of newborn trolls she has spawned onto the surface. The biggest concern amongst the people is the one day she may never make this call again. These screech patterns have become a sort of second language on the island. Some nights, she can be heard weeping, low, mournful cries echoing from the pit.

Gontis is a jadeblood troll, and is best known for his role as the guardian of a naturally occurring grub-spawning island deep within the Proxinian sea. Well, as "best known for" as a secluded island village boy can possibly get.
