Video from last nightβs Columbus candidate forum for city council and the school board
A candidate forum for Columbus City School Board and City Council District 7 was held last night at New Birth Christian Ministries. I would link to the video of the forum but for some reason Columbus Underground made it private. www.yahoo.com/news/columbu...
There will be five candidates for the District 7 city council seat, assuming they each submitted adequate valid signatures. They are Kate Curry-Da-Souza, Aurora Dasan, Densil Porteous, Tiara Ross, and Jesse Vogel. The primary will be held in May. www.wosu.org/politics-gov...
0297-2025 adds an FBI CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) addendum to the contracts with the law firms and cybersecurity expert handling the city data breach. This is required so that the law firms can access the criminal court information that was leaked during the data breach.
0118-2025 authorizes $150,000 to pay for memberships in certain organizations including the U.S. Conference of Mayors, which last year sent Andy Ginther, his wife, and daughter to South Africa and Ginther to Florence, Italy. www.dispatch.com/story/news/l...
City council meets tonight at 5pm. These items are on the agenda:
0162-2025 eliminates the Zoning special permit that was previously required for marijuana dispensaries. The language says that the state requirements and notice/map are sufficient, so a special permit isnβt necessary.
Yes he is running for the seat in the upcoming election, and so are a number of others.
Picture of Otto Beatty III, text overlay reads Otto Beatty III appointed to fill District 7 seat on Columbus City Council
Council appointed Otto Beatty III to the vacant District 7 seat. He is the stepson of Joyce Beatty.
A joke.
Thereβs nothing on that subject on the agenda, though they might comment on the timeline.
Just remember though, they are ALL your representatives. /s
Jordan A. Miller, Jr. will be reappointed to the Columbus Regional Airport Authority board. Which is not controversial, because heβs at least a Democrat, but I am watching these appointments for when Council appoints Republicans. www.rooster.info/p/columbus-a...
The plan is for the new development to provide permanent supportive housing, but as far as I know, the HUD deed restriction required the property to be used for affordable housing. Will this new housing not be affordable? The ordinance doesnβt explain why the restriction must be removed.
3588-2024 on the consent agenda allows the city to pay about 50k from the proceeds of the sale of 879 E Mound St. (the former home of Camp Shameless) to remove the HUD deed restriction from the property.

Council meets tonight at 5pm. There are one or two controversial items on the agenda.
With an onslaught of executive orders yesterday, including attacks on immigrants, health care, public health, and the environment, I havenβt heard anything from our Columbus Mayor or Council President.
Tonightβs agenda is only 8 pages long, with not a lot of meat. There will be no meeting on January 20th due to the MLK Jr. holiday.
On the consent agenda is 3367-2024, which creates an auditorβs certificate in the amount of $335,000 for portable toilet rental services for our parks. Because Columbus refuses to build permanent toilets in our parks but wants to be taken seriously as a large city.
Just what we need in a city of ever-increasing housing costs, more leeway to receive tax breaks while selling housing that isnβt actually affordable. (3457-2024)
On the Council agenda for this evening, 1/13/25, is the first reading of an ordinance to reduce the affordability requirements for owner-occupied housing that receive property tax abatements in CRAs. It now allows the cost of ownership to exceed 35% of the ownerβs income.
The most exciting item on the agenda is probably the fact that K Dawgβs Big Nickel Tavern is getting a new liquor license. Happy New Year!
Council will hold an executive session this evening regarding the appointment to the vacant District 7 council seat, but no vote will be taken. They plan to announce their decision in the next few weeks.
and one from a driver who was struck and allegedly injured by a refuse vehicle driven by a city employee.
Tonightβs agenda is only 9 pages long and doesnβt really contain much. The city is settling three separate lawsuits relating to current and former employees. One from a firefighter alleging sex discrimination, one from a health dept. employee alleging sex discrimination and retaliation
City Council meets tonight VIRTUALLY at 5pm due to inclement weather. You can watch the meeting on YouTube or Facebook Live (go to City Councilβs page and the stream will be posted there)
The 10 finalists are Otto Beatty III, Kate Curry-Da-Souza, Shaneece Green, Tim Fulton, Robert Leis, Dorothy Malone, Lisa Masci, Bailey Phillips, Densil R. Porteous, and Jesse Vogel
In case you didnβt see it, City Council named 10 finalists for its District 7 vacant seat. A hearing will be held tomorrow, 12/18, at 5pm, where each finalist will be allowed to speak, and the public can also comment.
2994-2024 Provides 57,200 for services provided by the firm of Isaac Wiles & Burkholder related to a case brought by Shaw, a CDP Officer. She alleges that Wozniak, hired by the city to investigate CDP conduct during Summer of 2020, conspired with the city to deprive her of her constitutional rights
3538-2024 provides 29,000 to three organizations who provide services during winter months, including Goldheart Outreach, a great organization that (among other things) drives people to our emergency warming centers so that they have a warm place to stay at night. You can find them on FB
3390-2024 authorizes a contribution agreement with Franklin County Convention Facilities and 2.5 million dollars toward renovations. See discussion of the needed work here: www.10tv.com/article/news...
