In 2003, 10 of the greatest economic minds to ever walk the earth joined over 450 other economists speaking out against the Bush tax cuts in an official memo. They were right.

We know how trade works. But enacting the obvious requires political will, not economic insight. Instead, we get tariffs. MAGA marinates in cognitive dissonance.

Watch for it.
They will largely ignore the conflict, despite its catastrophic potential. They will not apply their usual "solidarity with oppressed peoples" rhetoric here. The moral framework is too messy β no clear villain, no clean victim β so they'll stay quiet or issue vague "calls for peace."
As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan, here are my predictions for how the activist left β particularly those who frame the world strictly through an oppressor/oppressed binary β will react:
Wokeism is as deranged an ideology as trumpism. The right is just better at memes. Take the L and learn from failure. The left is a disaster right now. We need to be better.
canβt believe i just retweeted Joe Walsh lmao
My hope is that as a country we collectively learn from this experience and it never happens again. If this isn't a learning experience for Trump voters idk what would be.
If thereβs a silver lining to the Trump-era economic turbulence, itβs this: the sheer volume of policy shocksβtariffs, tax cuts, deregulation, deficitsβwill keep economists busy for decades. A natural experiment in populist disruption.

But they donβt prevent recessions outright e.g., 2008, or Japanβs decades of high deficits + slow growth. Context matters: what the deficit funds, rates, private sector behavior, etc.

Interesting point, but the claim oversimplifies it.
Yes, big deficits can delay or soften a recession by propping up demand (classic Keynes).

Empathy that only extends to your in-group isnβt empathy. Itβs tribalism dressed up as morality.
βThe death of human empathy is one of the earliest and most telling signs of a culture about to fall into barbarism.β

Trump is a billionaire from NY with a gold toilet. He has nothing in common with rural voters except the performance of grievance. He doesnt share their life. He sells them a story that their resentment is righteous and their decline is someone elseβs fault. Thatβs not solidarity. Itβs manipulation.

AI is actually going to work.
Agile, on the other hand, has become little more than a hollow certification you toss on a rΓ©sumΓ©.
