Valverde’s a proper footballer. Captain’s half.

That was a massive dive. Massive.
Not seen a Tudor have this big a howler since Henry VIII separated the Church of England from the Roman Catholic Church, establishing himself as the Supreme Head of the Church of England via the 1534 Act of Supremacy.
Well…
I remain here.
My feeling is that this is going to be like the Frankfurt game. We will score at least 4.
I could, of course, be completely wrong.
Where I am, David - think having Wirtz as the ‘key’, so to speak, and two combative, competent midfielders to protect but with enough flair to contribute seems like where we should be looking? If Wirtz is able to surrender even if a bit of the defensive responsibility he NEEDS to have this season..
I’m still of the belief that Szobo is our only player that can play the defensive role we want in terms of pressing and covering ground. Surely another with the legs to do that too - or something at least comparable - would be a better fit?
Just hoping for someone to give me their two cents.
Palace are compact; it’s easier to move within the space you allow. We know that we have to navigate wider areas of the field, especially when suddenly out of possession. Does Wharton fill those spaces quickly enough - or do we see something similar to Alexis and Grav in taking that bit too long?
I can understand the Anderson shouts - he’s mobile, combative, progressive - but from what I’ve seen, and this is where I’m maybe being naive, I don’t get that with Wharton. Great head on his shoulders - those passes! - but our lack of mobility in the midfield makes me wonder if he’s the right fit?
What a strike that is.
Also - how often do we see our players throwing themselves in front of the ball? Why do they stand still and throw a shape?
Thing is with calling players Rolls Royce’s is they start to worry about getting scratched. It’s been a problem for longer than this season.
Slot culpable for watching for as long as he did and not reacting. There’s no way that first hour resembled anything he’d tried to impress in the lead-up.
Only Alexis and Hugo up for it from the start. Too much anonymity across the pitch - including, surprisingly, Szobo. Salah gets a goal and that ultimately does nothing to gloss over another poor performance.
Started playing when it looked like they had to. Deserved loss.
And another, lads.
Wut
Does Salah get that?
Ekitike still needs another two yet.
1 👍
Up the Reds.
Ekitike hat-trick. Let’s have it.
Yeah, I completely get that - I’m just trying to say that he has been in the right position at the right time or has even found himself isolated with a full-back and the opportunity hasn’t been taken.
It’s probably just me being hyper-aware of the opposing sides I see on here.
*too much
Completely agree, Kev. None of what I said relates to that because I have no qualm with the Gakpo disenchantment.
I’ve seen way tougher much unconditional Salah defending though.
Said a few times that I hate the idea of any player being unbenchable if their performances don’t match up.
I feel like - and this might not be the case here; I’m not on here to criticise or say I know what I’m talking about - that we’re dealing with some much ‘it’s this’ or ‘it’s that’ rather than exploring the grey, which is necessary.
Slot and Salah can do better. We can’t treat either as infallible.
I love the lad but I don’t think him being an ever-present helps him as much as he wants the opportunity to right performances and as much as we’re all desperate to see some form.
Mate, he’s not helping himself though. I made a comment a while back on utilising him in a way that optimises his performances - but that wasn’t playing 90 after 90.
His ball retention and final pass/finish hasn’t been up to scratch - certainly not with the consistency in which we’re used to.

The Reds must be gearing up to win the Champions League. That sort of success is what these world-ending events usually signify.
