(3/4) The focus now is on permanent repair, debris removal, and restoration. I asked DC Water about prevention efforts across the system. They are continuing inspections and infrastructure upgrades. The DC Council will continue conducting oversight to ensure accountability.
(2/4) DC Water has installed a strengthened bypass system to safely divert wastewater to the Blue Plains treatment plant. 6 of 7 high-capacity pumps are now operational, with the final pump expected soon. Water quality testing confirms the river has returned to approved levels.
🧵I want to share an update on the sewer pipe failure affecting the Potomac River. DC Water has stabilized the situation, and no overflow events impacting surface waters have been reported since Feb. 9. Drinking water remains safe.

❄️Missed collections are frustrating, and DPW escalation teams are working to catch up.

Per DPW: Escalation teams will continue to pick up missed trash and recycling collections on Monday as needed.
DPW will operate on a one-day slide schedule for collections of household trash, recycling, and food waste. Households that receive collections on Monday will be serviced on Tuesday.
I am heartbroken by yesterday’s tragic shooting in Glover Park. My heart is with the children, their loved ones, and all those impacted by this devastating loss.

DPW has activated escalation teams & seasonal staff to address missed collections, with crews now operating 7 days/week.
If your collection was missed: keep cans out and submit a new 311 request to ensure it’s routed correctly.

🗑️♻️DPW says trash & recycling collection are now on normal schedule, separate recycling collection resumed Feb 9, and additional crews are addressing missed collections. Crews working 24/7 to clear alleys and restore access. Residents may hear noise from this work.
