49.8% of voters, or 31.9% of the electorate, and yet with that he got 58% of the electoral college and 62% of the States. Sure as hell ain’t democracy.

Christmas is on its way, and so a glass of Assyrtiko while listening to this and waiting for friends to arrive for dinner is the way forward.

Some top wines were consumed at yesterday’s Wine Society ‘Season’s Eatings’ dinner. Here are four of them. Juhfark from Kolonics, Moulin-à-Vent from Joseph Burrier, Rioja from Lòpez de Heredia and Jurançon from Domaine Cauhapé.

This is a very strong candidate for my wine of the year. Astonishing assyrtiko. Absolutely danced across the palate.

On an autumnal Hertfordshire dog walk, this is Ruby Murray, our 11-year-old yorkiepoo (sounds better than crossbreed, and easier to say than Yorkshire Terrier - poodle cross).

It clears the queues and allows the ‘dears’ to have a shorter wait time, surely.
