I just wanna go out into the desert and look at cool rocks Melbourne based electronic musician and nerd. You might know me from such things as Metroid Resynthesized https://youtube.com/@luministmusic?si=vacukXywvKX4YEIB
I like how he's characterized like RE4 Leon here hehe
the UI designers on Xenosaga were real menu perverts. this almost feels like my inventory software at work lol
I am discovering Xenosaga for the first time (it never released in PAL territories)
holy shit dude I WOULD HAVE KILLED TO PLAY THIS AS A TEENAGER
it's Bandcamp Friday in some parts of the world :) please go check out my music, it would help me a lot!
BIG TIME!!! There is a veritable ocean of cool an interesting and weird stuff out there to enjoy
I am currently wearing a tshirt with this sprite on it :)
a fantastic indepth read on a really weird situation. it's super important to bring attention to issues of copyright like this, especially when loopholes are being abused by bad actors
wow late ps1 games looked so good. I need to play this!
the video is sped up slightly, you can tell because Mario's voice is higher pitched than normal.
it's raining today, and I just heard the most perfect water droplet sound on my balcony and thought it was a notification on my work PC
this screenshot confused me, the thumbnail kinda looks like a silhouette of batman in 3rd person lol
this cures what ails me every time
looking very nervously at Martian Successor Nadesico: the Blank of 3 Years on Saturn, another reference-heavy parody work - it's the infamous never-translated official sequel story to the anime.
so many weird/cool sleeper gems on PS1! something I've had fun with is looking up dev teams on Mobygames, then seeing what other games the staff worked on. you find some really cool stuff that way
just goes to show the actual narrative is never as black and white as it seems.
and really, while we're on Bloodborne - the original game still exists! you can play it today! there's nothing stopping you!!
an industry obsessed with remakes is a stale industry imo. we're seeing it in film too.
this post was how I learned that Nouvelle Vague means New Wave lol
what I found most interesting is that the easy mode breaks the core gameplay loop, which is enticing the player to make choices and take risks with harder enemies (because an enemy might drop a health item or you might be close to a level up). when you steam roll everything, you lose some agency.
like all Falcom games I've played so far, NPCs are varied and have interesting stories and personalities! yes there are tropes, but NPCs interact with eachother in believable ways and are always very responsive to each new story beat. the NPC writing really sells a believable concept of community.
and the game rewards you for exploring and making choices on your upgrades! sell some upgrade ore, get gold - now you can buy a new weapon but not upgrade it. no worries, an optional sidequest or hidden chest rewards you with extra upgrade ore!
you have to choose strategically between buying new equipment vs upgrading existing, based on the gold / upgrade materials economy, which is tied to the strength of newest enemies. grinding doesn't feel gratuitous because fighting is fun, and you typically don't need to run an area several times.
playing Ys: Oath in Felghana right now, and really love how its level up system and economy respects the player.
you get less xp per level for the same enemies, so the gameplay loop feels exciting and encourages exploration and pushing forward even though it's risky. it's really fun!
Capcom and Grasshopper Manufacture holding up the entire "funny realist-ish videogame asset" market by themselves.
This is is the kind of nice things we can have if companies don't use AI for diagetic artwork in games!
this is a terrible development for game preservation. this sucks
this really, really sucks for a lot of reasons
ah yes my favourite Nintendo 64 protagonist, Brian Diesel
have any of you read this
I still think about it all the time
Itβs been long enough that so many people havenβt read what I consider foundational pieces of games criticism

terrifying
just came across a youtube comment from 2019 that said "That ad had Daryl from the walking dead in a Playstation game what the heck"
lol
yeah this is where my brain went immediately too. they've added this to the front end menu by accident
you should probably just put your phone away for a while
