I don’t think you are. There can be power in labels and as long as we are using self-identification as our basis, each person should get to pick their own terms. I personally don’t think anyone should tell me I can’t call myself a gay man.
My question for this writer would be “why do you want to restrict how people self-identify?” I’m open to include more labels to show nuance if different terms are more comfortable/accurate for others, but I should get the same consideration of using labels that I’m comfortable with to self-describe.
How many conversations am I expected to have with people who are hellbent on misunderstanding me? It’s wasted effort and it’s not really worth it when they’ve already decided I’ll burn in hell. They care more about what I am than who I am, and that’s their moral failing.
Probably identical, but yeah. His style fails are great cautionary tales for me.
