These are students who participated in a research focused master's program after their undergrad degree.
Science takes a village. Thanks to everyone who has mentored a scientist, and all those awesome mentees.
Spending two weeks forgetting I know science stuff makes me delight in the jargon in my inbox: "looking for donkey anti-chicken secondary antibody in either 555 or 594." But honestly, the phrase "donkey anti-chicken" is a delight all year round.
structured procrastination for the win!
Hurts my brain. Escher's genome.
Some dog genetic signals are easily detectable by assigning individual dogs the phenotype from its breed, but the approach has many confounders. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
Yikes. Did a google search of the article info get a real hit?
I was lucky enough to see her in 2019. It's not only her scientific insights that were so impressive; it's the way she kept broadening her perspective over the course of her life.
JUST IN: Jane Goodall, primatologist who transformed our understanding of the lives of apes, has died, according to an announcement from the Jane Goodall Institute.

It's a desperately depressing time for science. Reaching this milestone helps motivate me to keep up the efforts for everyone who needs a better diagnosis, cure, and future.
I've talked to parents of sick kids who are desperate for us to be doing everything possible. Each time sharing data looks too hard, ask yourself if you can prioritize it.
The high number of authors (20) and number of years since the first draft (six or more) don't even get at how many people in the community made this possible. Thanks to every person who has allowed research using their health data and to every scientist who shares that data.
Blood, sweat and (happy) tears: we've published about our freely available collections of more than 16k consistently processed, QC'd bulk RNA-Seq datasets (with a focus on pediatric cancer). rdcu.be/euuSd
I hear you! My genomics journey starting in mouse and went to dog and then humans. I would never have appreciated all the human resources if I hadn't lived in dog-land for a while. I still miss it.
Itβs incredible that this decision is presented as strategic misdirection rather than impulsivity. This should be in the opinion section. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/22/u...
This is an amazing learning project :). Also, I agree that if you're looking for a super fast and fun (and safe) language to learn, Rust has you covered! BFX is leading, I think, in Rust adoption in science; let's keep it that way!
what booker is doing right now is an example of what i mean when i say things like βwe need more ambition right now.β there is room in american politics right now for people with ambition to take big stands and reap the rewards. heβs doing it!
They killed LIHEAP, which helps poor people not freeze to death in the winter because of unpaid heating bills.
She died in binary. Thatβs dedication. RIP.

Went to check out this article in Oxford #Bioinformatics, and dude ... I was not prepared for this font!

Are they posting on linkedIn to help fired colleagues find jobs? That was a signal I observed from a former NIH colleague.
Randomized, probably

"We have to allow this [org/shelter/hospital/school] to erase the trans community and comply to save everyone else"
Absolutely not.
I will not allow my community to be jettisoned to save yourself. Yes, if you don't, other groups may suffer, and you might too.
But we are all in this together.
Okay, I cannot recommend 5calls.org enough. Enter your address and it will find all your reps (federal and state). AND give you a list of issues to call about AND which reps to call about each of them AND a little script for each, in case it's helpful. They have an app, too.
