If we want the term Transsexual to become widely understood as neutral nomenclature, associating it with a specific subculture of transfeminists by using the term "birthday boy" is counterproductive.
It will only stick if transsexual people you are otherwise opposed to also want to use the term.
It looks to me that the ones who have the biggest problem with it are non-transitioning enbies and committed closet cases, not transsexual men (whatever other issues with transmisogyny you may have with them).
Very frustrating that a lot of blowback to this comes from trans women who've internalised the idea they look like the art in this article, and therefore feel personally attacked by attempts to call out the transmisogynistic nature of it.

"Sex and gender are different" turning into "yes, sex is the real thing that matters" in the minds of cis people seems like such an avoidable own-goal, but that's the kind of rhetoric queer rights orgs pushed. Something has to change about the way we communicate ideas about sex and gender.

My differing opinion though is that non-transitioning enbies weren't the source of that "validity > materiality" flaw. It was the wave of freshly hatched eggs who, feeling isolated and pre/early transition, bent advocacy language towards reassuring their insecurities over feeling like they belonged.
10 years ago I could completely understand a cis ally not knowing basic shit about where our boobs come from, even expect it. The fact that after a decade of advocacy and extreme visibility cis allies STILL don't know our basics is evidence that there was a fundamental flaw in that advocacy.

I have compassion for Talia, sure, I don't have a personal beef. But she doesn't extend that compassion to me, doesn't want to. What's being asked for isn't compassion, it's deference. It's to let some people beat up on us over and over without being allowed to say anything or we're "cold".
It's normal and probably for the best there isn't actually A Trans Community here because being trans isn't a personality or ideology. Trans women never ran Bluesky and I guess it was stupid for me personally to believe in a kind of solidarity that was never extended to me except conditionally.

I was mulched by that clique back on twitter for daring to say that "lesbian attraction to women is innately purer and less crudely sexual than straight male attraction" was placing lesbianism on a harmful pedestal. Glad more are seeing how hateful, deceptive, and manipulative they are.

"Born this way" was flawed but a big step up from "privacy of your own bedroom" slogans from straights that advocated gay rights from an anti kink-shaming angle, that was actively harmful to the cause.
"Love is love" was the best one though that encouraged people to transform how they saw gayness.
It's like if gay marriage advocacy was taken over by straight allies who kept pushing rhetoric about people being free to do what they want with each-other in private.
Like that's true but also actively harmful to gay rights because it just reinforces the idea that homosexuality is just a fetish.
So glad to see so many trans people start to articulate what's wrong with the "gender and sex are different" style rhetoric that cis allies have been using the past 10 years. It's been actively damaging.
