FortisBC has been dumping effluent loaded with heavy metals into the Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound Biosphere Region. Instead of fixing the problem, they've asking to pollute even more.
Please take a moment to learn more, then send a letter to hold FortisBC accountable.

“The climate scientists we surveyed were unambiguous: current economic models can’t capture what matters most – the cascading failures and compounding shocks that define climate risk in a warmer world – and could undermine the very foundations of economic growth.”
Should be the top story everyday.
Question Period Day 2:
MLA Valeriote calls for a comprehensive study on the health impacts of LNG flaring, after months of harmful emissions in Kitimat (and with the Squamish LNG facility coming online soon).

Fracking harms human health.
52 studies on populations living near fracked gas from 2000 to 2022 report greater risks for impaired fetal growth, premature birth, congenital malformations, childhood cancer and heart disease.

BC has only cut 2.3 million tonnes of climate pollution since 2007. Approved LNG projects will increase climate pollution by 20.2 million tonnes.
What is wrong with this picture?
BC has only cut 2.3 million tonnes of climate pollution since 2007. But approved LNG projects will increase climate pollution by 20.2 million tonnes.
To meet BC's climate target we need to cut 24 million tonnes of climate pollution by 2030.
As we're staring at budget cuts @brendavancouver.bsky.social there are lots of ways BC could generate wealth:
💵Tax the super rich
💵Tax big polluters
💵Increase royalty rates for fossil fuels + water
💵End fossil fuel subsidies
We can have nice things. I promise.

As BC is facing budget cuts for everyday people, Eby & Dix are giving away billions in handouts to greenwash LNG exports.

Dr Melissa Lem, Emiko Newman, Tracey Saxby, and Bishop John Stephens hold a sign by the BC Climate Emergency Campaign showing that the BC government is failing on eight out of ten urgent climate actions. Only two actions have achieved minor progress, on reducing pollution from transportation and buildings. Dr Melissa Lem holds a copy of the latest progress report.
The BC Climate Emergency Campaign's 2025 report shows that the BC government is backtracking on climate action which is making life more unaffordable for everyday British Columbians. Check it out:

Both Shell and Mitsubishi are looking to offload their stakes in the troubled LNG Canada terminal. It’s another sign the LNG bubble may be ready to pop.

Four speakers hold up a chart that reads "2025 Progress Report; BC's Climate Emergency Response." They stand in front of Canada Place with fire banners behind them.
Today we launched our 2025 Climate Action Progress Report, evaluating the #BCgov.
The result? 8 failing grades, and 2 grades of minor progress. The worst outcome in 4 years.

Environmental governance does not end when a facility is fully built, or half-built. Over a decades-long operating life, strong and sometimes uncomfortable public pressure is one of the few tools communities have to ensure compliance, transparency, and continual improvement. Reducing that pressure does not protect the environment, it weakens oversight. History shows that sustained public pressure has meaningfully altered, delayed, or halted major oil and gas projects even after construction has begun, including Keystone XL. Civility matters, but so does honesty. Squamish can engage respectfully while still being clear-eyed about the fact that many residents fundamentally oppose this project and will continue to say so. Communities do not owe the LNG industry or its regulators comfort when a project causes sustained concern about public health, human rights impacts, environmental risk, and climate responsibility. Kate McInnes Director of health & economic campaigns My Sea to Sky
What an excellent letter on #LNG in #Squamish by @myseatosky.bsky.social
Kate is correct, calls for "unity" do not absolve us of our civic duty. Principled opposition is not hostility.

Woodfibre LNG is suing the District of Squamish over taxes… again! claiming that paying CAD$1.8 million dollars a year during construction will make this US$8.8 billion dollar project unsustainable and its profits reduced.

Chart showing greenhouse gas emissions over time from 1990 to 2022, comparing BC versus G7 Nations. BC's emissions have increased by 26% and Canada's emissions have increased by 16% since 1990. In comparison, all other G7 Nations have reduced emissions: USA by 3%, Japan by 11%, Italy by 21%, France by 27%, EU by 31%, Germany by 40%, and the UK by 50%.
BC MLAs like to claim that BC is a climate leader, but this chart by @bsaxifrage.bsky.social exposes that lie.
BC's emissions have increased by 26% since 1990, while all other G7 Nations have decreased emissions by up to 50%.
Liar liar our communities are on fire. Summer is coming.
