Today's Headlines
Today I learned the acronym ETTD: βEverything Trump Touches Dies.β I also learned it was the title of a book that was on the NYT best seller list in 2018.
Nothing quite like being welcomed home by your dog...
Chocolate whipped cream is a thing. Who knew?
We've reduced the American content in our investment portfolio from 35% to 4%. We still want to be diversified so it's mostly Canadian with some European and Asia/Pacific funds. Plus we're putting as much money in there as we can reasonably afford.
You should be watching "Shoresy".
Comparison is the thief of joy.
Is America great yet? Asking for a friend...
In the "turn about is fair play" category, I've decided to start referring to Trump as "Premier".
On the one hand, it's fascinating watching the former cornerstone of the free world spiral into fascism. On the other hand...
I know you are working hard out there to help us, and I am grateful. Keep up the good work!

Skilled professionals should be able to work anywhere in Canada without unnecessary red tape. If youβre qualified in one province, you should be qualified in all provinces.
The more we remove these barriers at the provincial level, the stronger and more competitive Canada becomes.
There is much this nation needs to do to establish our economic resilience, and there is much the provinces can do as well. Remove barriers to inter-provincial trade. BC wine should be available anywhere in the country without restriction, as should Quebec cheese.
My priority when purchasing goods and services is strict: Canada first, then any other country in the world, then do without, then (and only if necessary) buy American.

Ladies and Gentleman,
Just a quick note and a request. We citizens out in the economic trenches are doing our part.
Here's a copy of an email I send to my premier, provincial finance minister, and MLA:
I may have choked up a bit when I saw this one. Thank you Australia! www.reddit.com/r/BoycottUni...
I have deployed to Cyprus, former Yugoslavia, and Afghanistan. I have seen people's ability to harbour hatred and distrust. The damage that Trump has caused to US/Canada relations in the past 37 days will be generational.
In war, "winning hearts and minds" is gaining the emotional and intellectual allegiance of the locals.
We gain nothing by booing Americans. Our quarrel is with their administration. Gain their allegiance and entice them to spend their money in Canada, while we spend our money here too.
It was not a diplomatic settlement. It was not even a reprieve, really, as Trump's intentions are unfathomable and he cannot be trusted. We need to continue to assume that the attack could resume at any time.

So far I've cancelled accounts with GoDaddy, Netflix, Disney+, and the New York Times. I've picked up a sub to BritBox.
My priorities for purchasing are:
- Canada
- Mexico and China (for now, the enemy of my enemy is my friend)
- Any other country on the planet
- Go without
- Buy American
Tariffs against Canada have been delayed for 30 days. I will continue to seek out non-American sources of goods and services. The Trump administration is utterly untrustworthy and my own government is fractured and ineffective.
So itβs war. Trump announced a 25% tariff on all Canadian goods and services, and Trudeau responded with an equivalent tariff on $155B worth of US goods and services.
As a Canadian Iβve decided it is my duty to support the war effort by doing whatever I can to not send my money to the States
I asked it, and it says everything is fine now.
Natalie "Samantha" Rupnow, 15, was identified as the high school shooter who opened fire at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin. A second grader called 911. Jesus wept.
I hit the gym today for the first time in years. I figure that at the tender age of 61, investing in my health and fitness now will pay off when I reach middle age :)
What I want is a Prime Minister who has not lost the support of his Caucus, the premiers, and the majority of the electorate a time when our economic well being depends on unity.
For what it's worth, I agree on your assessment of the Conservatives. The next election is going to be a challenge :)
I'm going to stick with stupid :) Gameshow politics; wasteful handouts by a desperate government that has lost the moral authority to govern.
