Actually, from my research this is the fault of the English language. Most Germanic (and most languages in general) calls the English "Billion" a variation of "Miljard"

It really isn’t.
I’ve read the book multiple times, watched every adaptation I’ve gotten my hands on. 2007 doesn’t stand out as bigoted. His film is notably anti war, and contains most if not all motifs from the book.
The movie is weirdly progressive, but I don’t think he realizes it, of course.
