Up till now both major political parties have “combined” to convince the electorate that a vote for a minor party, or even worse an independent, was a wasted vote. The two-party “duopoly” has been protecting each other’s interest against the interests of the Australian electorate.
You may have noticed a significant rise in Independent candidates this year—those who are not affiliated with any political party. Community independents vote for their communities not on a party line and that is a powerful promise to constituents.
The Australian Federal election campaign is in full swing, with voters heading to the polls in the coming months. There are 30 community independents launched so far, ours is going to be the 31st.
