It should also be noted that models tuned or forced to produce such output are less reliable/more erratic.

There's a reason that LLMs all independently arrive at the eigenslur, and it's because of people.

I think a lot about a post by someone who ran a hobby shop of some form (forget if it was a comic shop or Warhammer store or what) that basically said putting up a little rainbow flag sticker on the door was the best business decision they made because they served as That Guy repellants.

right wingers sneeringly deploy "virtue signaling" to imply that nobody actually has virtue, that everyone is as morally bankrupt as they are, but they're just more honest about it. it's pathetic to see supposed lefties embracing the idea that anyone who signals virtue is actually a hypocrite

11.03.2026 17:06 πŸ‘ 155 πŸ” 18 πŸ’¬ 5 πŸ“Œ 0

This.
The opposite of virtue signaling is vice signaling.
I would rather normal people see trans rights as something _worth_ signaling their support for, instead of something they don't particularly care about or actively oppose.

I feel like these are two different things, the In This House signs are a way for normal people to signify that they support trans/minority rights while the jargon is a way to tell people you've spent time in activist/academic circles

It’s so awesome living in a world where the bravest Europeans are the Spanish. What’s up w that

Spanish PM Pedro SΓ‘nchez:

You may have heard that Spain is alone. They’re the same people who said that when we recognized the State of Palestine, and then others followed.

We are not alone β€” we are the first. Those who will end up alone are the ones defending the indefensible.

a homeless guy on my block just threw a rock into the post office window for no reason

it’s not humane to let clearly unwell people wither away on the street until they become a danger to themselves or others

we need a combo of right to shelter and mental health treatment for those who need it

===

Did you talk to him? Did he say he had no reason?

No. More likely this is just an assumption. or worse, complete bullshit made up to generate public distrust of the houseless.

There was a long-running effort to correctly identify mental illness and drug addiction as medical conditions rather than moral failures. But now there's a real bizarre effort among the NPIC and in left-wing spaces to say these are rational people making rational choices. I don't get it!

Apart from the moral repugnance, this is so revealing of how ignorant conservatives are about poverty. Poor people have to think about money ALL THE TIME. They worry constantly about what everything costs, how to substitute one purchase for another, what bill can be put off until payday, etc.

The case of temporary visitors was more complicated at common law. The
parents, if lawfully present, were under the temporary protection of the sovereign.
That is why one judge in a famous case, Lynch v. Clarke, held in 1844 that a child
born of temporary sojourners was a citizen. But the rule was contested because of
increasing international travel and the resulting dual allegiances. Joseph Story
suggested that an exception for temporary visitors would be a β€œreasonable
qualification” to the rule. Henry St. George Tucker in his treatise stated flatly that
temporary visitors fell outside the common-law

I'm afraid I can't just sit here and say nothing when another law professor gives false testimony to Congress about the meaning of the Fourteenth Amendment.

Ilan Wurman has given false testimony to Congress, being fully on notice of the falsity. I do not think this is fairly debatable. 1.

Anthropic Sues the Administration Here's why Trump wanted to bring firms to heel with his executive orders. Here's what can happen when he fails.

One of the law firms Trump tried to intimidate with an executive order is representing Anthropic in court. Here are the details of the two lawsuits against the government after DOD tried to blacklist the developer of Claude AI.

an incredibly difficult problem here is that even if iran could somehow get an acceptable guarantee out of trump, netanyahu might not honor it, and vice versa

(Reuters) - The U.S. Navy has refused near-daily requests from the shipping industry for military escorts through the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war on Iran, saying the risk of attacks is too high for now, according to sources familiar ..

This is wild. Kennedy is reading Bier's "blewski" posts as if they discredit him, but everything in there is true. They're not even hyperbole! OF COURSE the administration's policy is ethnic cleansing. OF COURSE district court judges are braver than ICE goons.

No it’s isn’t. β€˜Processing’ refers to an unbelievably wide range of activities, from pulverizing to baking to pasteurization. Plus the term we’re discussing here is β€œultra” processing, yet another layer of imprecision. If calorie density is the problem then why aren’t we just saying that

10.03.2026 16:57 πŸ‘ 16 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 3 πŸ“Œ 0

As colloquialisms, "junk food" and "ultraprocessed foods" seem to diverge slightly, that ppl often (but not always) use "ultraprocessed" to emphasize "artificialness" apart from healthfulness

it's evident, eg, in the way the MAHA lunatics are pushing "natural" products like rendered beef tallow

10.03.2026 15:51 πŸ‘ 7 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Ultra-processed means declasse. A bacon ice cream served on Top Chef has been processed repeatedly, we watched it happen together. But it's fancy looking so it's not ultra-processed.
