Holy sweet Jesus Jacob Fowler. That last minute is a Canadiens heritage moment.

Well he played one game since the injury and it was on the fourth line. Like, he missed a few games before the Olympics then they came back and it was βno, we donβt remember December and January at allβ
I dunno man. I get plenty of things wrong about players every season but I never, ever understood why Texier lost his spot on the top line. There was nothing, absolutely nothing, to indicate it was necessary whether by watching him or looking at almost any relevant data. It was genuinely bewildering

Might go wild and have a large one, who can say
Itβs Wednesday and you know what that means
Texier back to the top line but Caufield out with an illness
not necessarily. Montreal, Detroit, Boston, Minnesota, and Dallas are all top-10 teams by blocked shots per minute. Washington, Seattle, and San Jose, too, depending what you think of those teams.
oh agree with that, but like, he's blocking 33% fewer shots this season than his three-year average from 2022-2025, yet he's been on the ice for more shot attempts against/60 this year (68.2) than his last three years in NYR (67.5). Think it's more than just the team.
I don't know if he'll ever get back to what he was 7-8 years ago, but something I found interesting nonetheless
you can see the rebound in his effectiveness using the synthetic goals model from @hockeyviz.com
there's no correlation between a drop in hits/blocks and goal differential overall, but it's interesting for Trouba because his block/hit rates this season are very similar to his last few years with WPG (when he was pretty good) and much lower than his last few years with NYR (when he was not)
shows defenceman changes in rate of hits/60 and blocks/60 minutes at all strengths this season compared to 2022-2025, and isolating only those defencemen with a 5v5 goal differential change relative to teammates at least one standard deviation above average. Jacob Trouba compares well to Seth Jones, John Marino, and Moritz Seider.
was researching something else and found this interesting: at all strengths compared to the three seasons from 2022-2025, Jacob Trouba has dropped his blocks/60 rate over 30% and his hits/60 rate nearly 40%. He has also seen a huge increase in goal differential/60 relative to his teammates at 5v5
since American Thanksgiving, 346 forwards have played at least 300 minutes at 5v5, and Robert Thomas ranks 6th by points/60 (3.11). The only players higher are Kucherov, Point, MacKinnon, Celebrini, and Necas.
Thomas is also 1 of 4 forwards with a goal share and xG share over 60%.
Habs regulation win, sitting down to Rec 2, and then catch the 2nd and 3rd period of Avs/Oilers. Might be the best Tuesday Iβve had this year.
Oliver Kapanen has 20 goals with 19+ games left, has been probably MTLβs top penalty killing forward, and heβs not even the best rookie on his own line. The future: it looks good.

I kind of agree with that but I hope they at least give him another year (or half year) to try and figure it out

it does make me excited to watch Brad Treliving go through a full rebuild.
have to admit, it's getting kind of boring kicking the Leafs while they're down. Happens every spring for the better part of a decade and it's just not the same anymore.
I won't stop doing it, but the point stands.
Since Jaccob Slavin returned from injury on January 10th, the Carolina Hurricanes have given up fewer shots against per 60 minutes while short-handed (32.1) than the Toronto Maple Leafs have at 5v5 (33.1)
in calendar 2026, Anthony Mantha has as many points at 5v5 as Connor McDavid (16)
