Ad for the Grand Rapids Cycle Co.
Have You ever stopped to think what you were paying for in most bicycles?
Is it material? That seems to be about the same in all good bicycles (though a heap of poor stuff is worked into "jobbers' bicycles" and sold as " high
grade"). Is it labor? Labor can be good, bad or indifferent. It's not often bad, except in convict-made wheels (and there's a lot of 'em masquerading under unknown names), then it's worse. Labor that builds most bicycles is "indifferent." Many makers are inexperienced and new in the business. They are not thoroughly organized and can't handle their labor in the best and most economical manner. You pay for this lack of experience. New Clippers are made of the best material, with organized labor born of an experience in bicycle making dating back to the early history of bicycles. The spiral name plate tells you the wheel; any Clipper dealer will tell you the price.

THE BICYCLE TRAMP.
EDITOR L. A. W. BULLETIN:
I wisH to say a few words about the bicycle tramp. He has become so numerous it is about time he was put out or, better, knocked out, as our pugilistic friends put it.
Last week one of the above came to our city. He said he was traveling from New York city to Can-ton, Ohio, to congratulate McKinley on his good luck.
Now it would not concern the rest of the world how far or whom. he was going to see if he paid his way, but when he asks people to help him with money for lodgings, etc., he is going too far.

If accessibility disappears after a snowstorm then there was never really accessibility to begin with. Winter reveals so much about who our cities prioritize.

Book cover for the book Wheels On Ice: Bicycling in Alaska 1898-1908, Edited by Terrence Cole, From the Northern History Library. It features a photo of a man dressed in cold-weather gear standing with a bicycle in a snow-covered landscape. There's another warmly dressed man standing nearby.

My BREW in the snow as a singlespeed cog, 2-ring tensioned drivetrain bike. With a dropper post.
Snow in Athens 12 years ago when I still had a mechanical dropper post on my βdinglespeedβ (2-speed manually shifted) BREW bike. I like that only about 3 people out there followed the last sentence. Hope for nice snow when we wake up.
