Forgoing food. Cutting back on utilities. Driving less. Borrowing money.
These are the sacrifices that tens of millions of people are making to afford their health care expenses, according to a West Health-Gallup Center on Healthcare in America survey released. https://cnn.it/4rx5Ys3

Sad @uwmadison.bsky.social would discriminate against people just because they don’t share their political views. I’m sorry, but this just isn’t right. It shouldn’t be tolerated.

One week from today, we leave for England. While in London, I plan on conducting research at the public records office researching Lord Cornwallis’s letters and diary he wrote during the American Revolution.

I personally think you made the correct decision to interview Roberts. It’s good to have a civil discussion with people who hold opposing views. For those being critical of you, the hell with them. Open, civil discussion is vital.

For those who hate that I did an interview with Kevin Roberts, I hope you listen to it. Frankly, he hung himself on his own petard. Most of his answers were vacuous or worse. Why not expose this rather than merely hate it. I agree about Roberts's views. Tried to reveal them. I think we did.

I read and enjoyed "Race and Reunion" in grad school-- a tragic and infuriating story of white Civil War veterans who chose civil reconciliation with the white south over justice for Black Americans. Perhaps there's a lesson in there about the price of civility and who pays it.

As I have said, I do not intend any reconciliation with Roberts and Heritage. Not possible. But to communicate why many of us believe they are wrong to their faces. Otherwise we just talk with each other as we are doing here.

Print of a crowd gathered outside New York City Hall as officials conduct a public lottery drawing on a platform.
As a companion to his #Winter2026 #EAS article, Anders Bright examines a 19th-century morality tale about the lottery. He shows how this story reveals the ways Americans used popular literature to debate luck, risk, & the dangers of speculation.
