A new fireside tale - traversing the 17th century - from the Glencoe Archaeology Project.
I love how these evidence based stories build a world around and animate the archaeological finds.

You can check out our latest storytelling blog from the Glencoe Archaeology Project here: glencoe.glasgow.ac.uk/the-house-of...
This story explores the 17th century tacksman's house in Achnacon, and the biography of this dwelling, its occupants and finds.
β¦ Or you could read about it in this fieldwork article (but miss some of the drama & extended bits of research): doi.org/10.15157/ave...
Or if you want to make me really happy, read the article & come hear the paper & ask me oddly specific questions #pmac26
To celebrate the launch of our new Glencoe website we have a blog post for you all - which follows some recent fieldwork by @nts-archaeology.bsky.social and myself to visit a mill stone quarry in one of Glencoe's corries. You can find out here: glencoe.glasgow.ac.uk/oh-schist-a-...

I quite liked this by Magic Torch comics, we contributed some stories from a survey of the foreshore and timberponds with ASN groups which are featured: share.google/LYIlmwNyHyFd...
It was co-designed with the clients at a horticultural therapy centre on the Clyde.
If the finder were an archaeologist this would be an unthinkable story, our training teaches us that artefacts represent a shared past. His training is in documents, he sees objects as something to be auctioned, a source of 'reward'
Is this an anomaly? Historian friends, how do you feel about this?

Beautiful day yesterday to go up Meall Mor, beside the NTS visitor centre in Glencoe, to inspect this millstone rough out up at 400m OD in Coire nan Cuilc. Thanks to @eddiecstewart.bsky.social for coming along.
Look what just dropped on the doormat! The latest issues of #CurrentArchaeology and our work on Ben Lomond made it on to the front cover! @currentarchaeology.bsky.social @n-t-s.bsky.social @nattrustarch.bsky.social
"I felt the urge to cry out that they could never understand the relationship we hold with this place: a relationship carried not in ownership but in reciprocity, where the land sings through Gaelic names, stories, and memories borne across generations."

Thanks for sharing Iβll give this a read!
A great way to push back against the use of ai in reconstructing visions of our past. Apart from its devaluing of the skills of amazing illustrators like yourself, it lacks the iterative research process which makes engaging with reconstructions to valuable, and recycles tired stereotypes.
This clay pipe we found during our 2023 season at the Summerhouse of MacIain in Glencoe is quite on theme for Burnsβ night.
The pipe was likely left by a 19th century visitor to the site who may have been on a tour of the Highlands: glencoeandrannochenvirons.wordpress.com/2024/01/24/f...

Before the modern curlers how did folks get their hair curled? Here are a pair of early 20th c curling irons!
I had a great day out at @nlheritage.bsky.social Summerlee Museum with students from St Margaretβs in Airdrie exploring their industrial collections! We were lucky to get the chance to peak behind the scenes, and get hands on with their collections!
Looking forward to the Robert Burns conference this weekend examing the role of the Burns supper. I'll be giving a talk about our whisky project and the National bard. @uofgartshums.bsky.social www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/centre-for...
"...a hint of warmth on your skin which will not truly arrive for another three months. These powerful sensory moments can come at any moment, never when you expect them. As an archaeologist, one of the great joys of these moments is to know that they are now as they ever were." tinyurl.com/2xrnzb4e

There's time yet... though it won't me, I was joint honours so I missed artefact drawing class in favour of core Geography.
I really love these illustrations of some of our finds featured on tonights Digging for Britain, alongside some of the many other wonderful finds made across the country!
Iβd love to see what anyone comes up with!
Cheers Derek! Yeah I had romantically fogged over the sheer sogginess too!
Thanks Kenny, I loved your Kelvin Wheelies segment!
