In the three-year Sunday lectionary, Years B and C are novel and the compilers were tasked with creating alternate narratives for Lent. Year B selects texts from John "about Christ's future glorification through his cross and resurrection" and Year C texts from Luke "on conversion."
So, the Year A scrutinies are indeed traditional. The sequence woman at the well -> man born blind -> Lazarus have a traditional association with the catechumenate.
