the first is an easier decision in the moment, but then everything after that feels like it's at altitude - focus, exercise, motivation.
the second takes more discipline in the moment, but then everything after that gets easier.
do the hard thing once, and the rest gets easier.
starting the day with notifications is a surefire way to zap your brain pathways for the day.
there is such a distinct different on the days started with:
1. firefighting and
2. moving or writing
but mainstream is downstream of niche culture, art, fashion, and people building from a thesis where the only guarantee is changes.
study the greats. tilt esoteric. build from counterculture. be okay with being wrong for a while before ppl realize you are right.
so many get stuck in the paradox of creating for the “mainstream”.
by following this cycle, you will never be able to lead the next.
We might be better positioned to see how creativity can change the texture of our lives, shape our worldviews, and push us to grow through continued conversation rather than a rush to the finish line.
If we view creativity as just that - a practice - it allows us to be more forgiving, more receptive to the ways that living a creative life can impact us personally.
Maybe for you the parallel is going to the gym or practicing piano. Either way, it’s less about the end result and more to do with the progress in process.
My relationship with creativity is very similar to my relationship with mindfulness.
I see it as a practice.
flow state is never a guarantee, but it certainly is more likely the more often the creative muscle is flexed
