The reporter making the assertion is generally obligated to provide proof. Or you believe that Grim’s evidence-free claim is by default true until proven otherwise? Is that mindset substantively different than the anti-Platner “lunacy” that you call out?

Much of the anger toward the oysterman-turned-Democratic-Party-upstart is due to his own mistakes, both in the past and on the campaign trail. In 2007, while on leave fromthe Marines in Croatia, Platner drunkenly got a tattoo of the Totenkopf, the German death's head symbol commonly associated with the Nazis. After the tattoo became an issue, he had it covered up. Platner claims he had no idea about the image's Nazi association until last October. Recently, Platner quote-tweeted an alt-right online personality, Stew Peters, to make a point about no war with Iran; he quickly deleted the post after backlash. He also appeared on a podcast with Nate Cornacchia, a right-wing personality whose show has featured a number of conspiracy theories and borderline to outright racist content. That's the primary concern for liberal and left resistance to his campaign. There are other issues that give people pause-the fact that he volunteered for war in the first place,
I am neither condemning nor defending Platner here, but setting the scene, because some of his centrist and left critics have devolved into absolute full-blown lunacy. the dumbest form of politics is yelling at voters after you lose. if you lose it is *always* your fault. every confounding factor in the universe is your job to overcome. if you take a position that is unpopular and don't adjust to learning that, you are bad at running for office.
