Fingers crossed for a Paris that prioritizes people over pollution. May the city's transformation continue to inspire the world! 🌎

An infographic from the Global Carbon Project displays three pie charts illustrating the remaining carbon budget for different global warming thresholds (1.5°C, 1.7°C, and 2.0°C) with a 50% likelihood. Each chart features a large dark gray circle representing 2,770 gigatonnes of CO2 already consumed, paired with a smaller orange wedge representing the remaining budget. As the temperature threshold increases, the orange "remaining" wedge grows significantly: it is a narrow sliver of 170 GtCO2 for 1.5°C, a moderate slice of 525 GtCO2 for 1.7°C, and a large segment of 1,055 GtCO2 for 2.0°C. The visual contrast highlights how little of the global carbon budget remains to stay within the most ambitious climate goals compared to the vast amount already emitted.

Happy #PiDay!

Here are some pies to consider: If nothing changes, the remaining carbon budget to stay under 1.5°C, 1.7°C, and 2°C will be used up in 4, 12, and 25 years, respectively. Let’s eat up by setting all the fossil fuels on fire.

The is the federal government telling news stations to provide favorable coverage of the war or their licenses will be pulled.

A truly extraordinary moment.

We aren't on the verge of a totalitarian takeover. WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF IT.

Act like it.

Protecting public lands is about far more than money.

I said last week "it is okay for good people to hate Stephen Miller. Just ask Karl Popper."

However, I have enough epistemic humility that if you present me with counter arguments of sufficient weight by philosophers like Popper that it is not okay to hate Stephen Miller, I could admit I erred.

I wrote about an all-time favorite media genre of mine: the Sleeper Cell Panic story. It addition to helping prop up the war effort against Iran and pressuring Dems to abandon their (token) DHS reforms, it has the added bonus of promoting mindless paranoia and racial profiling.

The idea that America isn’t for everyone who wants to be an American is something that makes my blood boil. Posting a photo of yourself as a Congressman smiling next to these words is wicked. It’s antithetical to the concept of America.

The fate of fossil fuel systems in the "mid-transition" I talk with Emily Grubert about the hidden dangers of letting the free market manage the decline of our legacy energy infrastructure.

Today on Volts: for the next few decades, we'll be in the "mid-transition," with clean energy systems growing as FF systems decline. Those FF systems will not decline smoothly -- there will be thresholds, "cliffs," where they suddenly crumble -- so maybe we should, I dunno, plan for it?

I’m working with Governor Gretchen Whitmer on trying to save The Great Lakes from the rather violent and destructive Asian Carp, which is rapidly taking over Lake Michigan, and all of the beautiful surrounds. I’ll be asking other Governors to join into this fight, including those of Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, New York and, of course, the future Governor of Canada, Mark Carney, who I know will be happy to contribute to this worthy cause. Separately, I am also working to save The Great Salt Lake, in Utah, which, in a short period of time, if nothing is done, will have no water. This is on top of everything else I am doing. Only “TRUMP” CAN DO IT! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Historian here Greg Sargent is right. A war of obliteration without purpose one that tanks our economy and destroys American hegemony, even our allies are not happy to put it mildly. Trump was truly sent to destroy the republic.

Donald Trump’s Presidency Is in Free Fall Republicans typically lead on the economy, national security, and immigration. Trump is squandering the GOP’s traditional strength on all three.

Trump is in serious trouble. His war is deeply unpopular. He's now in the toilet on the economy, immigration, and national security. His public standing is getting close to being broken in an irreparable way, akin to Bush after Iraq and Katrina:

It is the one anniversary of Pete Hegseth's "Signalgate" scandal when he leaked secret military plans in a chat on the app.

He was never held accountable.

Meanwhile, this depraved treasonous regime expresses no concern about Russia providing Iran with intelligence to kill American soldiers.

Part of the reason "Breaking Bad" is one of the greatest TV shows of all time is that its central thesis, which feels true, is that there is a monster inside all human beings, and given the chance to come out, it will, indeed, come out.

Anyway, here's an article about a Let the Monster Out Factory.

Everything the US moves around needs diesel fuel to power the trucks, trains, & boats: food, goods, crops, commodities, everything. Oil products powers ~90% of US transport. It's why we should electrify transport as a national security imperative: to reduce the risk of price shocks to the economy.
