Ancient forests aren't "resources"β€”they're living systems sustaining us all. Destroy them for short-term gain? That's planetary sabotage.
#Ecocide isn't abstract: it steals stable climate, clean air, future harvests from our children. Time to protect what remains. πŸŒ³πŸ›‘οΈ

Not doomed in the least. It's Arthur Ransome's "Swallows & Amazons," and I'm hoping I'm just in time for tea.

Out here,
the horizon never feels far away.

Just wind in the sails,
deep blue water
and endless possibilities. β›΅

My favourite thing about the Famous Five and the Adventure books was the camping. And then Swallows and Amazons. Adult-free outdoor fun. Despite obviously being an indoor child who mostly liked reading, ha ha.

As a kid, my great aunt Mary woods hole (family nickname) gave me a book each Thanksgiving. The books were always about adventures (swallows and amazons was a fave) and she would write that I could do anything and be anything I wanted to be. ADHD and oceanography must be genetic.

Fifty years after New Zealand stopped whaling, humpback population showing signs of recovery Breeding is getting more competitive, suggesting the population is growing, a new study shows.

This is a marvelous change not only for the Humpback whale πŸ‹ population but for all of us. We need to keep our gentle giants from going extinct.

We saw beautiful Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos fly overhead while we were camping, they have a distinctive bouncy flight as if they're held up by string #birds #art #drawing #cockatoo #australia

This is good because you really can't enjoy camping at under 30 FPS, frankly

I find sailing and rowing has been less of a thing as well. Famous Five, Wind in the Willows and Swallows and Amazons.

Mine were Swallows and Amazons! But I can read a map!!

The best thing about the Narnia books is you could go to school dressed as a schoolchild.

Which would have been my preferred strategy. "Oh, I'm Lucy Pevensie."

05.03.2026 09:40 πŸ‘ 6 πŸ” 2 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Since I read anything and everything as a child, I honestly don't know what I would have gone to school fancy dress book character day as. Anyone else my age perplexed?

05.03.2026 09:03 πŸ‘ 5 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 4 πŸ“Œ 0

A middle class child?

(I read Narnia, Swallows and Amazons, the Enid Blyton "Adventure" series etc. at primary school).

The writer and actress Sophie Neville from the 1974 film still is Titty and does - at least in part of her life.

Oh my god this brought back memories..... when I was like 9 I was obsessed with swallows and amazons and went as the character who was unfortunately called Able Seaman Titty. and you better believe i introduced myself to everyone like that
