Tariffs should have been set to reflect working and environmental conditions in the exporting country, to level the playing field on those variables. They never have been, and here we are.
A lot of stuff would be different if American's didn't put a minimum of thought into just about everything.
Pretty much what I've observed, if less thoroughly. Essentially fascism, or at least the same mix that gave rise to it, just without the need for a depression to provoke it.

I've wondered how American cars would have differed if the manufacturers had been based somewhere hillier, like the California coast. Porsche's agency apparently had a related thought back in the 1990s.
