the reason its bad to run universities like businesses is that almost all businesses fail on any reasonable timeline of evaluation.

hudson's bay made it the longest and even they only got to about half an oxford of longevity

CSWEP strongly condemns Larry Summersโ€™ behavior as revealed in the email correspondence with the late Jeffrey Epstein. While abuse of power in the economics profession is not new, rarely has the intent behind such abuse been so clearly stated.

When I was an undergrad at Sapienza University of #Rome, courses did not have #homework. Only a final #exam, first a written, closed-book #test and then an oral examination.

Every single #econ course.

As #AI proof as it gets.

Economists have spilled WAY too much ink debating and analyzing monetary policy to be silent at this moment.

A friend of a friend of the #president is the victim of a crime in #DC, a city where crime is at a 30-year low.

In response, the president takes over the DC #police & sends in the national guard., tells them 2 do โ€œwhatever the hell they want.โ€

Sounds like crony #fascism, if you ask me.

The initial estimate of job change for a month is based on the growth or loss of jobs at the businesses that have reported their data. Generally, BLS assumes that the employment situation at businesses that had reported is representative of the situation at those that had not yet reported. BLS continues to collect outstanding reports from the
businesses in the sample as it prepares a second and then a third estimate for the month. With each subsequent estimate, more businesses have provided their information. In 2012, the average collection rate at the time of the third estimate for a month was 94.6 percent. (See chart 1.)

Why do the jobs numbers get revised?

our markets and policymakers want data NOW but employer data dribbles in over months

1st estimate is based on the 75% of employers who respond promptly

Updates occur as more data rolls in: 95% response rate by final revision 1/N

Exactly. What guarantees that Trump wonโ€™t, in the future, directly request layoffs of #faculty he doesnโ€™t like to maintain funding?

More than a slippery slope, this settlement looks like the edge of a precipice.

~70% of the #Gaza built environment destroyed.

50% of #hospitals destroyed.

59K confirmed deaths, 16.5K #children. Does not include #missing people, indirect deaths.

Mass #starvation due to aid #blockades.

Daily civilian killings at food distribution centers.

Silence is complicity.

This is truly unbelievable given the rhetoric of the #Meloni government.

But it speaks volume about the resilience of democracies in #Europe, where even the far right has to capitulate to its daunting demographic trends.

Havenโ€™t looked at this data in almost 10 years (the paper came out in 2016). Iโ€™ll ask Markus if heโ€™s okay to share the data folder.

If you actually read our paper you would have seen that the failure of the Gini to account for inequality at the top of the distribution is exactly the motivation of our analysis.

Mostly living in cities, towns, and villages within Israelโ€™s internationally recognised borders, many Palestinian citizens of Israel found themselves excluded from life-saving infrastructure during the worst nights of the Iran-Israel conflict to date.

For Samar al-Rashed, a 29-year-old single mother living in a mostly Jewish apartment complex near Acre, the reality of that exclusion came on Friday night. Samar was at home with her five-year-old daughter, Jihan. As sirens pierced the air, warning of incoming missiles, she grabbed her daughter and rushed for the buildingโ€™s shelter.

โ€œI didnโ€™t have time to pack anything,โ€ she recalled. โ€œJust water, our phones, and my daughterโ€™s hand in mine.โ€

The panicking mother tried to ease her daughterโ€™s fear, while hiding her own, gently encouraging her in soft-spoken Arabic to keep up with her rushed steps towards the shelter, as other neighbours climbed down the stairs, too.

But at the shelter door, she said, an Israeli resident, having heard her speak Arabic, blocked their entry โ€“ and shut it in their faces.

โ€œI was stunned,โ€ she said. โ€œI speak Hebrew fluently. I tried to explain. But he looked at me with contempt and just said, โ€˜Not for you.โ€™โ€

"Not for you."

Palestinian citizens of Israel--21% of the population--are being excluded from bomb shelters on the basis of their ethnicity.

This is the society the West will defend at all costs.

This is a lie. We all saw the video. The Senator clearly identified himself, and he did not "lunge" toward anyone.

If these miserable propagandists will lie to you about roughing up a U.S. Senator in a room full of reporters, what won't they lie to you about?
